Christopher Bourland Daly died December 23, 2018 as the result of an auto accident near Kingman, Arizona.
He was born November 9, 1950 in Berkeley, California to Elizabeth Bourland Daly and Christopher Lawrence Daly Jr.
Known as "Kit" to family, and Chris to friends, he grew up in Walnut Creek, California at the Daly homestead, surrounded by loving grandfathers, parents, siblings, and a menagerie of livestock and pets. A 1968 graduate of Ygnacio Valley High School, he was thrilled to join his classmates last summer for their 50th reunion.
College took our brother to Michigan State University for a degree in hotel administration. Using that degree to his advantage, he worked in his field for a number of years throughout California. A highlight of his professional career came in 1979, when Chris was chosen as the Resident Manager of the renown Old Faithful Lodge in Yellowstone National Park.
Following in his father's footsteps, Chris spent many years of active duty in the U.S. Navy. He was extremely proud of his service to our country, serving with distinction and retiring as a Captain.
As a resident of Las Vegas for nearly 40 years, he embraced a wide and diverse community. He tutored students at University of Nevada, Las Vegas, volunteered for the early shift at the USO, and devoted time and energy to his church. He spent many a night keeping the shelter open and warm for families in crisis.
Chris was a long-time member of the Community Lutheran Church choir, which brought him great pride and years of camaraderie and joy. In 2017, he travelled with the choir to Europe and was looking forward to appearing with them at Carnegie Hall this coming spring.
He was preceded in death by both parents, and his step-father Carl Neuhoff.
He is survived by his dear friend Tom TechasiRichard, Sun Valley, CA; his sister Susan Dalke, (Arthur) Medford, OR; brother Scott Daly, (Christina), Benicia, CA; sister Katherine Daly, (Ron Watters), Pocatello, ID; step-sisters Dorothy Neuhoff, Memphis, TN; and Eleanor Berghausen, (James), Hilton Head, NC; as well as many nieces, nephews, greats, and cousins. He was devoted to his family, and will always be remembered in that light.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Chris was my student at UNLV. We were both about the same age and had a lot in common. I developed a lasting friendship with Chris. We kept in touch somewhat through the years. However, recently I´ve been thinking of him and called, texted, and emailed all without a reply. I then googled Chris and saw his obituary. He was a good and kind hearted soul. The world is worse off without Chris. I read that when you think of the dead they are asking for a prayer. I hope and pray that Chris hears mine.

Chris was funny in so many ways, that when I would meet him in the morning, he just somehow lightened my day! I was lucky to have known him in that way!!

LCDR (at the time) Chris Daly was my OIC of our Vegas Detachment, Cargo Handling Battalion 14. We had many memories of our times in the Naval Reserve. He also came to our new home (2007) in Cedar City, UT and helped us prepare for our first July 4th picnic.
Capt Daly was 2 days younger than I, and we had fun teasing each other about it.
God be with you, sir.

Sorry to learn of Chris's passing. He will be missed. A good friend. Over the past several years we had the opportunity to share lunches and reminisce about our respective experience in the Navy.

Captain Daly was an outstanding Naval Officer. I had the pleasure of meeting him and serving with him at the Las Vegas Naval Reserve Center on Range Road in the early 2000's. He was an intelligent, kind and humble man who set an exemplary example for the many dozens of Officers and Enlisted who were privileged to know him. Fair winds and following seas, Captain Daly!!
