David M. Greason

Heath - A funeral service for David M. Greason, age 91, of Heath, will be held at 2 p.m., on Saturday, January 23, at the Heath Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service, 1249 Hebron Road, Heath, with full military honors provided by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.

David passed away peacefully at his home, on January 18, 2021 following a brief illness. He was born in South Orange, NJ on May 5, 1929 to the late Harold Stanton and Anne (Wallace) Greason.

He and his first wife, Veronica Goodbread, had four children, and divorced after 26 years of marriage. He then married his 2nd wife, and love of his life, Virginia (Jean) Honig and they raised her youngest daughter and he became close with Jean's other four children.

David was a 1951 graduate of Cornell University where he majored in Chemistry. Through the ROTC program, he was commissioned an Ensign in the US Navy. He served on the destroyer USS Braine in the Mediterranean Sea during the Korean War and was promoted to Lieutenant (Junior Grade), then Lieutenant during 1953 when he skippered one of four prototype aluminum PT boats being tested by the Navy.

He retired in 1981 from the Navy Reserve as Lieutenant Commander with 30 years of service.

He was employed at Dowell Chemical and several years at the Owens Corning Tech Center in its Technical Service and Development in both Newark and Granville, Ohio.

As a member of the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), an international standards organization founded in 1898, he became a Board Member, Treasurer, Vice Chairman, Chairman and Past Chairman of the Board. As Chairman, David had the opportunity to travel across the USA and to various foreign countries accompanied by his wife Jean. A time neither forgot.

David's favorite pastime was playing Duplicate Bridge. He was a member of the American Contract Bridge League for many years but did not play often enough to achieve Life Master ranking.David was a Life Member of VFW Post #1060 and Newark Eagles Aerie #387.

He is survived by his wife Judith A. (Ridge) Martin, two sons, David Mark (Elizabeth) Greason Jr. and Walter Douglas Greason; two daughters, Hannah and Susan, four step-sons, Robin Honig, Randy Honig, Edward Martin and Robert Martin; and step-daughter, Katherine Honig and many grandchildren and great- grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 36 years, Virginia "Jean" Honig Greason (April 2, 2013); his brother, Pete Greason; a son, Edward A. "Andy" Greason, step-son, Dick Honing, and step-daughter, Pam Martin McCullough.

Family and friends may call one hour prior to the service on Saturday, January 23 from 1-2 p.m. at the Heath Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service.
