JoAnn Cannon Obituary

JoAnn (Jodie) Holroyd Cannon

Fort Collins - JoAnn (Jodie) M. Holroyd Cannon passed away peacefully in her sleep on February 4, 2021. She was born October 4, 1934 to Paul and Mildred Holroyd in Denver, Colorado.

Jodie loved kids. She was passionate about young people and spent 30 years of her life working with kids at Poudre High School. As office manager, she worked for six principals. She was a force of nature, or as one of her grandsons said, "She was a pocket full of firecrackers." Family always came first with Jodie. She gave generously of her time to each and every one of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Jodie was a Boettcher scholar in the award's inception and valedictorian of at North High in Denver. Education was important to her, and she passed that belief on to her family. She felt every situation presented an opportunity for growth. An avid reader, a lover of sports, an unbelievably lucky slot machine player, and a happy traveler, she enjoyed many different interests in her life. She was Josh Groban's number one fan and loved Peyton Manning and Rod Smith of the Broncos, and Larry Bird of the Celtics. No one could call her during NCIS as she was a big fan of Gibbs. She was a huge fan of the Duke Blue Devils and Coach K, which earned her the nickname, Coach J. She was still close with a group of friends she had from kindergarten. Above all, she was a kind, intelligent person who genuinely cared about fairness and doing right. The hole she leaves in our family is immense.

Jodie was preceded in death by her husband, Don in 2011, and she is survived by her four children, Cheryl Beery (Dave, deceased), Diane Idler (Darwin), Terri Berger (T.S.), and Jeff Cannon (Diane); her grandchildren, Paul Cross, Brad Cross, Erin Van Galder (Kevin), Ryan Cannon, Jeffrey Berger, and Tiana Cannon; her great grandchildren Peyton and Ryleigh; the grand dog, Marley (deceased, but Jodie's favorite dog.) She is also survived by her sister, Marilyn and her brother-in-law Jerry Petrocco and their children and grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to Make A Wish foundation and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
