Margaret (Peggy Durkee) Sondrini 84, passed away on April 5, 2021; surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Hadley, MA on June 6, 1936 and moved to Springfield when she was four years of age. Educated in local schools, Peggy graduated from Technical High School, Class of “55”. She married her high school sweet heart, Lawrence “Larry” Sondrini and had 49 years and 9 months together. Peggy was predeceased by her parents Charles and Mary (Jandizinski) Durkee, her husband Lawrence in 2008, and brother Robert in 1985.
Peggy worked at Buxton’s Inc., where she had the title of Miss B-E-R-A and at Milton Bradley. She retired from the Springfield School Lunch Dept.,Brookings School as Cook Manager.
In her life, Peggy enjoyed spending time with her family-pool parties-cook outs, cooking, ceramics, sewing-crafting and time at Cape Cod.
Peggy with sadness leaves her daughter, Tina Marie Hawley her husband James, two grandsons Jason Hawley and his girlfriend Anastasiya Tokareva, Bryan Hawley and his wife Jessica Hawley; great grandchildren, Kaitlyn Margaret, Nicholas Lawrence and Michael James Hawley; sisters Eleanor McLauglin, Elizabeth Yacovone; many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 4:00pm-7:00pm on Monday (April 12, 2021) in the Forastiere Smith Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 220 North Main St., East Longmeadow. Peggy’s funeral services will begin at 8:45am on Tuesday (April 13, 2021) from the funeral home. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00AM in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 123 William St., Springfield. Burial will follow in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 421 Tinkham Road, Springfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. I was just thinking about Peggy today and what good times we had in the apt. we shared on George St. When I looked up her address, I was so sorry to hear she had passed. She and Larry were so caring and so much fun. My condolences.

I talked to Peggy daily when she was the cook at Brookings School. I always looked forward to her daily phone call ordering milk and other items for the school lunches. She would always have a funny story and make me laugh. What a great person. I am so sorry for your loss.

Our cousin Larry's wife Peggy always was beloved by all of the family. We all will miss her deeply. She was a beautiful person and a beautiful soul. Her daughter Tina, son-in law Jimmy and grandson Jason and his two boys and Bryan and Jessica and their daughter were the lights of her life bringing her much joy. Rest in Peace amongst all who have gone before you.
