Maxwell Wagg Obituary

May 2, 1934 - June 14, 2021. On June 14th Max Wagg passed away peacefully at the Georgian Bay Hospital surrounded by loved ones following a brief illness. He was 87 years old. He will be dearly missed by his beloved wife of 62 years Jean Wagg, now residing at the Villa Long Term Care Centre in Midland. He is also survived by his brother Jim and his wife Linda. Also grieving are his children and grandchildren: Larry Wagg and his wife Carrie Wyse; Brian Wagg and his wife Ursula Aust and their children Max, Leo and Ben; Kevin Wagg and his wife Cheryl McMurray and their children Matthew and Tricia; Nancy Marion and her husband Dean Marion and their son Kyle.
Max grew up on Manitoulin Island and remained close with many friends and family members from that area. He raised his family in the Midland/Penetang area where he worked as the head of the science department at Penetanguishene Secondary School for 20 years. In retirement he kept extremely busy driving tour buses and enjoying an endless stream of projects including wood cutting, making maple syrup, gardening, and building/fixing just about anything you can imagine. He was always generous with his friends and eager to help others. He was a member of several community organizations and an active member of his church.
Max was loved by many and left this world a better place than he found it.
The family has chosen to postpone Max's memorial service to a time when COVID restrictions have been eased. There will be another announcement when the date has been determined.
In Lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre or to Saint Paul's United Church in Midland.

Jerry was born a "double cousin" to Max...their Mothers were sisters, their fathers were brothers. They grew up pretty well adjacent to each other in Mindemoya, Manitoulin Island, with a sawmill in between! Max has been ever-present in all our lives...always somewhere in the background, strong and silent, willing to offer help or advice when asked. Max lived life to the fullest! We can all take a chapter from his book, on being generous with his time and talents. We'll do our best to keep an eye on Jean...RIP Max...we'll all miss you...XO

My wife and I enjoyed many wonderful Probus Club mystery tours and destination tours with Max over the years when he was "our" bus driver. He always made the trips interesting and fun and we always looked forward to seeing him as the bus arrived at the meeting point. We will miss his smile and friendly greetings that always made us feel welcome.

Larry, Brian,Kevin,and Nancy
Please accept our deepest sympathy on the passing of your Dad
Max was a leader ! As principals came and went the one thing you could count on at PSS was the stability of Max Wagg! Very well respected, we teachers always looked up to Max to get us through the many trying times that arose!
I was glad he was able to have a long retirement
Please know Shirley and I are thinking of you at this trying time

What a remarkable person. Max was a whirling dervish of energy. He always had at least one, if not two or three projects on the go. His buoyant personality was infectious. No challenge was too great.

His knowledge about stuff was unending. He'd step in and help any of his many friends with many many projects.

An excellent teacher who gave of himself to his staff and students.

I will miss him.
