Nancy Watson Obituary

Nancy Lee (Rose) Watson, of Belmont, Hingham and Falmouth, died peacefully at home on December 26th, 2020 surrounded by family. Adored wife for 60 years of the late Laurence William Watson; beloved mother/mother-in-law of Nancy of Boston, Pam (Jocelyn) of Charlestown, Bill (Melissa) of Poland Ohio and Mark (Colleen) of Hingham; everpresent grandmother to Michala (Michael), Skylar, Caroline, Jack, David, Christopher (Natalie), Jenna, Maggie, and Tucker. Beloved aunt and great-aunt. Nancy was raised by Lillian and Walter Rose in East Cambridge; the fifth of ten children. She is survived by brothers Kevin and Jack and preceded in death by Dr. Marilyn Young, Carmeline Murphy, Jeanne Thompson, Joanne Wilson, Barbara Mixer, Ted Rose and George Rose. Nancy graduated from Cambridge Rindge & Latin and graduated from Framingham State College. She taught for many years in Belmont before becoming a case manager at West Suburban Elder Services until her retirement. She and Larry split time between Falmouth, Belmont and Ft. Myers, eventually residing on the Cape full time, where she enjoyed countless days on Sippewisset beach and leisurely walks to the harbor. In 2011, they moved to Linden Ponds in Hingham where Nancy enjoyed an ever widening circle of friends, including her dearest, Carol Walls, whose friendship dates back to 1953 at Camp LeJeune where Larry and Bob Walls met as bunk mates. Nancy immersed herself in numerous activities notably the Welcoming Committee and often asked new residents dining alone to join her table, resulting in many new friendships. When the pandemic took hold, Nancy spent several months back at her home on the Cape, enjoying the gardens that she and Larry had so lovingly tended over the years. Upon hearing of her passing, many have reached out to convey the same sentiment; how Nancy's remarkable grace, compassion, kindness, generosity of spirit and unconditional love touched them all. With the COVID restrictions, a service will not be held at this time. A memorial will be planned when it is deemed safe, so that we all have an opportunity to come together to celebrate Nancys blessed life.

Dear Nancy, Pam, Bill, and Mark:
Your wonderful mom and dad were such a part of our childhood on Horace Rd in Belmont; fabulous neighbors and mentors to our parents since the Watson kids were older than us. I love the smile in the picture above because I well remember Nancy's warm smile, her joyfulness and her graciousness. My most recent memory of Nancy is that she brought delicious home-made cookies to my father's wake, saying "these are for the grandchildren." Such a kind gesture and exactly how I remember her when we were young. I feel very sad about her passing. She will always be in our hearts.
Love, Mary (Plunkett) Bender

Mrs. Watson was a very special person in my life and the lives of so many of Pam’s Framingham State friends. We enjoyed many happy times with the Watson family, including at Christmas gatherings on 200 Common St. and in Falmouth. Nancy and Larry were always so welcoming and fun to be with. To this day, I still make Nancy’s “company chicken” and think of her whenever I make it.
Sending love to the entire family.
Love,
Cathy “Layla” O’Leary Hayes
