Pasquale Sinatro Obituary

Pasquale (Pat) Leon Sinatro, Jr. of West Hartford passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 2, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Pat leaves his beloved wife of 58 years, Josephine, and his children, My and Brad Morse, Tish and Dave Ehnot, Megin and Michael Haeflich, Trey and Mary Rose Sinatro, Stephen and Suzy Sinatro, and Mark Sinatro and his loving partner Pam Sutula. He also leaves his 17 cherished grandchildren who were the light of his life: David, Stephen, Gregory and Michaela Morse; D.J., Brett, Paige and Mark Ehnot; Mike, Mallory and Melanie Haeflich; Mia, Trey and Tessa Sinatro; and Trent, Haley and Travis Sinatro. He also leaves his sister, MaryAnn Alfano and her husband Charles, a sister-in-law Lucille Milardo and her late husband Joseph Milardo, as well as many loving nieces, nephews and dear friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Pasquale and Mabel (Marama) Sinatro, and his brother and sister-in-law, James and Mary (Campion) Sinatro. A lifelong resident of West Hartford, Pat attended Sedgwick School (elementary and middle) and the Old Hall High School. He graduated from the University of Connecticut where he became a life member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity, played on the UConn Tennis Team, and most importantly, met his adored wife, Jo. He served during the Korean War era with the United States Air Force, and because of this service he was always passionate about recognizing and caring for veterans. After his service to his country, Pat joined his brother James at the Sinatro Insurance Agency founded in 1948 and co-managed Sinatro Brothers real estate company for the past 60 years. He served as Finance Committee Chair for the development and construction of the West Hartford Veterans War Memorial, a landmark in West Hartford Center. He felt a duty to pass on respect and honor to our youth. This calling inspired him to help initiate the construction of the Fallen Heroes Memorial located at Conard High School. On Memorial and Veteran's Days, with the help of his children, grandchildren, and caring citizens, Pat always placed American flags at Fairview Cemetery and the Veterans War Memorial in West Hartford Center. He was also an integral part of founding the annual town-wide celebration "Dancing Under the Stars" to assist in funding various Veteran charities. For his civic contributions, Pat was recognized by the Daughters of the American Revolution with the Certificate of Excellence in community service. An avid tennis player, he held numerous New England rankings and served as the President and Director of the Hartford Tennis Club. Most recently, he was named an honorary member and court #5 was named in his honor. He also served as President of the West Hartford Youth Basketball League and coached numerous West Hartford youth sports teams. Pat was a member of the UNICO Civic Club, a corporator and event chairman of Saint Francis Hospital, a member of the Valencia Society, and a dedicated fan and supporter of the University of Connecticut. He was a generous donor to the building of Gampel Pavilion, he spearheaded the Husky Dog Park project, helped establish a chair for the Department of Italian Studies, and awards an annual Sinatro Family Tennis Scholarship. Pat, along with his son Mark, was most recently honored with the prestigious Red O'Neill Award given by the UConn Club. Pat was a proud member of The American Legion Post 96 and was a communicant of Saint Peter Claver Church. Above all else, Pat was a devoted and loving husband, Dad, Boppy, and friend. He was a man of integrity, generosity and he possessed an incredible work ethic. He had a strong faith in God and community. Our family would like to acknowledge Dr. Brad Blanchard, Dr. Don Grayson, Dr. Jeffrey Kamradt and Dr. John D'Avella, along with the staff at Hartford Hospital for their loving care and support. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at Saint Peter Claver Church, 47 Pleasant St., West Hartford. Burial with military honors will follow at Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford. Calling hours will be Tuesday, May 5, 2015 from 2-7 p.m. at Saint Peter Claver Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the University of Connecticut Foundation/Sinatro Family Tennis Scholarship c/o University of Connecticut 2390 Alumni Drive, Unit 3206, Storrs, CT 06269-3206; Wounded Warriors; or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Pat was such a wonderful and giving man. I'm sure, in his passing, he was so proud of his entire family. I just think they are the best. One thing that I've learned is that sorrow, in time, turns to fond memories. I'm sure there were so many!
