Richard Rosenbaum Obituary

Richard Laurence Rosenbaum (Richie) died July 6, 2020 at his home in Fort Bragg, CA, when his big & loving, though physically damaged, heart stopped. His parents Harry & Ethel (Edelstein) Rosenbaum moved from Brooklyn to Queens, NY when he was young. At about 10 years old his mother bought him his first drum set, allowing him his lifelong passion. He began his foundation of drumming studying with New York based classical percussionist Joe Castka. After moving to the Mendocino coast, Richie shared this foundation and his finely honed chops teaching young aspiring drummers.
In his early 30's he travel extensively connecting with the beauty and kindness of human's everywhere.
A dear friend and fellow musician wrote:
"Our brother Richie Rosenbaum left the stage for the last time. Friends and fans knew Richie as the drumbeat of many local and international bands starting in the 1970's and continuing throughout his life. He was the drummer for such local groups as Horse Badorties, Gene Parsons Band, and The Bob Smith Band, before moving on to multi-cultural ensembles that performed music from Ghana, Africa Hedzoleh Soundz, Afro-Cuban Mambo This!, and American Rock & Rock standards and R&B Soul Survivors and the occasional jazz standard among others.
Richie could play it all, with precision, heart, and most of all, great joy.
Later in his life Richie would employ his talents to include caregiving for the elderly and infirm coastal residents with the same kindness and empathy that enabled so many dance floor healings.
He will be long remembered by his friends and admirers as a touchstone to the power of a smile, inspiration, friendship and the spirit of leaving a place better off than you found it.
All who knew him were glad they did."
Richie is survived by his loving wife, Morning Hullinger, and his brother, Allen Rosenbaum, and many dear friends.
