Robert Rosenberg Obituary

Rosenberg, Robert M.

Robert M. Rosenberg, professor of chemistry at Lawrence University 1956-1991, took his last breath 3 April 2015 at St. John's on the Lake in Milwaukee, where he had an independent living senior apartment since the death of his wife, Ginny Rosenberg, in February 2013. Professor Rosenberg had lived with his wife and children on North Eleanor Street and North Nicholas Street, moving after he retired to Evanston, Illinois, where he taught chemistry part time at Northwestern University for another eleven years. His children, Charlie, Meg, and Jim, all graduated from Appleton High School West. The sustaining joy of his last two years was the number of former students, dating back to the 1960s, who wrote, called, visited, and credited him as a foundational influence in a number of distinguished careers in chemistry and medicine. In 2010, his early influence was graciously acknowledged by former student Tom Steitz, who shared the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for 2009. A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday June 20, 2015 at 1:00 pm on the Lawrence campus, in the Nathan Marsh Pusey Room of the Warch Campus Center. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Rosenberg's memory to the Nature Conservancy, Lawrence University, or to the fast food workers' Fight for $15 campaign.

To the Family,

My sincere condolences on your loss. I just found out of Professor Rosenberg's death, because I was remembering his birthday coming up in March and made some inquiries and found out that he passed. Please accept my deepest sympathy.

Margaret-I am Marilyn Rosenberg Berkman, your Dad's first cousin. I entered a message a while back, here in this space. I wrote to you at a 360 e 193rdSt address, and the letter was returned. I loved your Dad. If you are so inclined, my email is marilyn.berkman@gmail .com. I would love to hear about his life ,and maybe share my memories of him. He. .came to mind so very often. If things had been different, I think we would have stayed connected. His picture. resembles his mother in her later years.
My sympathy and warm wishes.

To Bob's children,my deepest sympathies and condolences
I am Marilyn Rosenberg .Berkman, your Dad's first cousin. We grew up together in Ct. We were close. I l.loved him as though he were my big brother. I was 3 years younger.
We stayed in touch through my college years and his years of Doctoral study. I met your Mom once, shortly before they were married.in 1951. My sympathy there too. I last spotted .Bob from a distance at my Dad's funeral in 1956.
He was teaching at Wesleyan at the time. I left Ct.in 1951. In the mid eighties Bob and I exchanged a couple of meaningful letters, and we spoke on the phone one time. Margaret was in Medical School at the time. I have always missed him, and thought about him very often. I love the pictures of the 2 of us from our childhood. He must have been a wonderful Dad.

My Best to all 3 of you

To the children, my deepest sympathies in losing your father. I worked with your mom, Virginia, at ACC in the 80's. There was a special love between your parents and now they're together again. God Bless and cherish the memories.
