Alan was born on February 27, 1951 and passed away on Thursday, February 2, 2017. Alan was a resident of Wellsburg, Iowa at the time of passing. He attended Timothy Christian School, and graduated from Wellsburg High School in 1969. He received his BA degree from Central College in Pella, Iowa in 1973, where he played basketball for the Flying Dutchmen. He received his MA in Elementary Education from Morningside College in 1998. The family will greet friends from 9:30 a.m. on Saturday until the time of service. Burial will be held at a later date. Arrangements were made with the Doyen-Abels Funeral Home in Wellsburg. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Alan's memory to the Grundy County Memorial Hospital, Steamboat Rock Cemetery, Wellsburg Historical Society or the Steamboat Rock Presbyterian Church.
