LAING, Doris Jean
November 2, 1922 – October 4, 2017
Doris passed away on October 4 at Bethany Care Centre. We choose to remember Doris as she was for the majority of her 94 years – a hard worker, an accomplished musician, a gracious hostess. Truly a gentlewoman. Doris especially loved music and reading. She was also fond of the travels which she and her sister Wilma took within Canada and abroad. Doris grew up on the family farm at Gallivan near Cutknife, SK. She studied at the Saskatoon Normal School then taught for three years in rural Saskatchewan. Deciding that teaching wasn't the right career for her, Doris headed to Ottawa where she completed her B.A. at Carleton and worked for the Federal Government. Next, Doris completed a Master of Librarianship from the University of Washington which led to employment as a Librarian for the Saskatchewan Teachers' Federation in Saskatoon. Doris then moved to Calgary where she was employed as a Librarian for Encana. Doris was predeceased by her parents Mabel and William Laing and by her only sibling, Wilma. She will be remembered by her cousins Norma Hazelwood, Gail Douglas, and Jean Robertson of Saskatchewan. We are grateful to Doris' long time companions who took such loving care of her over the past few years – Ellen L., Toni, Cheryl, Nellie, Aileen, Barb, and Ellen W. Special thanks to Doris' friends, Enid and Lee. A private service will be held at a later date. Interment will be at Eden Brook Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are in care of Leyden's Funeral Home.
