Duane was a good friend, a talented professional and dedicated family man. We worked together in the early 80s in Reno for a number of years and his focus was always on what was in the best interest of the citizens and community. I always his forthrightness, commitment and sincerity. A true friend is missed.

Duane was a classmate at Battle Ground Jr. and Sr. High School. He and his wife, Susan, and I became really good friends later on. I knew Duane to be a gentle soul who never had an unkind word against anyone. He was a loving husband and father. I miss my friend but rejoice that he is free from physical distresses and now resides in a heavenly home.

When one’s best friend dies, it might seem that a part of yourself has gone away with him. That is the way I feel about Duane who I have known since the third grade. We have been friends ever since. One exception to that was when we had a fistfight in the eighth grade. During the contest I did not see him as a friend, nor when I had to go to school with a black eye. Lol!!
In later years we often rode motorcycles together. At times we would meet for breakfast; he riding from Nevada and me riding from Oregon. We would enjoy that morning meal halfway between, somewhere in California. Lol!!
Duane was an honorable man, played by the rules. His absence is painful and always will be.
My sincere condolences to Susan, Matthew and Brittany.

I met Duane in law school. We argued murder cases in the school cafe. We argued politics a whole lot. We had many a lunch at Troy's Greek Restaurant, where we also "discussed" the ways of the world. We were able to agree that greek chicken salads were the best, and he would always call Susan to see if she wanted one too. Duane was a gentlemen. He was one of my best friends. After law school, I was called to the ministry. Before leaving San Diego for Wyoming to minister there, I flew to Sparks because they were that kind of friends. As it happened, I never got to see Duane again in person. We still talked on the phone and enjoyed a good "discussion". Thank you, Duane, for valuing my liberal self as a friend. I always felt the importance of our friendship, and I miss you a whole lot. Happy Trails my friend. Lots of love, Sheila

I had the pleasure of being Duane’s hair stylist. What I loved the most was hearing his stories of being a veteran, and learning exactly what it means to be a veteran. An incredible unyielding love of ones country. I now have a better understanding and respect for those that have served. Thank you Duane for your kindness, and knowledge. You will be missed.
