Dwayne Hurst Obituary

Hurst, Dwayne 6/26/1953 - 11/4/2017 Spring Arbor Dwayne was born to Luther and Gertrude (Hughes) Hurst in Floyd County, KY. Dwayne was preceded in death by both parents, sister, Carolyn (Hurst) Stumbo; brothers-in-law, Clark Stumbo and Thomas Lawson. He is survived by his wife, Rhonda (Mincey) Hurst; 3 daughters, Melanie (Scott) Hoel, Jennifer (Kreston) VanDerMark, and Laura (Patrick) Miller; one sibling, Brenda (Hurst) Lawson; 7 grandchildren, Emma (20), Ellyn (12), Rion (12), Carah (11), Thomas (10), Jay (9), and Caleb (5). Dwayne graduated from Ypsilanti High School in 1971, married Rhonda, the love of his life, that December and enlisted in the military, serving 11 years in the Army (3 active, 8 reserve). He graduated from Michigan State with a BA in telecommunications and worked for AT&T for 37 years, retiring in 2012. He finished his career working as a contract engineer for Metro Engineering Solutions. Dwayne was devoted to his wife, children, and grandchildren. He worked hard to provide a wonderful life for them all. He was a man of great faith in his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He walked out this faith in every aspect of his life, especially through his 40 years of service at the Spring Arbor Church of the Nazarene as a Sunday school teacher, van driver, open-hearted friend, brother, and especially papaw to all the children and teenagers he so faithfully picked up for church every Sunday and Wednesday. His was a life well-lived, and he will be missed by all who knew him. Dwayne's family will receive friends on Monday November 6, 2017 at the Spring Arbor Church of the Nazarene from 5-7 PM and on Tuesday November 7 from 10 AM until time of services at 11 AM. Pastor Murphy Gill officiating. Private interment will follow in Roseland Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Spring Arbor Nazarene New Van Fund c/o Pastor Murphy Gill; 8200 King Rd., Spring Arbor, MI 49283. I had the privilege of knowing Dwayne(Bimbo)since he was about 5 years old and in these 73 years I've never known a better person from childhood to adulthood none better than Mr. Dwayne Hurst. He will sorely missed by all who knew him and loved him. May he rest in peace.

I have never know a man of higher character than Dwayne. I was privileged to have worked with him in various ways for over 36 years. Always a diligent worker yet he always took the time to help when I needed it. Dwayne's integrity was second to none. My heartfelt condolences to his family.

I am so sorry to hear this news. I got to know Dwayne over the last 2 years when MES performed contract work for me & at&t. Although I never had the pleasure to meet Dwayne in person, we spent many hours on calls going over projects. I truly valued his friendship, his work ethic and his war stories of the phone company. I will keep the family and friends in my prayers.
