MILLINOCKET - Helen M. McDonnell, 98, wife of the late Angus F. "Scotty" McDonnell, died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012, after a brief stay at a Bangor hospital. She had lived independently at her home until her passing. Helen was born Nov. 20, 1914, in Millinocket, daughter of John and Jennie (Crouse) Wibberly.
Helen grew up in Millinocket and raised her family there. She was a member of Millinocket Regional Hospital Auxiliary and AARP of Millinocket. Helen was past president of Emblem Club, Biggest Bucks of Maine Club as well as Penobscot County Republicans. She was also an active member of First Congregational Church of Millinocket.
Helen is survived by three children, Donald McDonnell and wife, Mary, of Beaverton, Ore., Raejean Stotler of Lakewood, Colo., and Keith "Skip" McDonnell of Millinocket; six grandchildren, Katherine, Cindy, Kayla, Scott, Roberta, Billy and Tom; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Helen is also survived by several caregivers who helped make it possible for her to remain in her home, in particular the two Brendas and Marlynda. In addition to her husband and her parents, Helen was predeceased by a granddaughter, Jody Sposato; and siblings, Florence and Jack Wibberly.
Friends are invited to visit with the family 4-7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, at Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St., Millinocket. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, at First Congregational Church of Millinocket, 47 Katahdin Ave., Millinocket, with the Rev. Terry Given, pastor, officiating. Gifts in memory of Helen may be sent to Katahdin Area Support Group, 10 Field St., Millinocket, ME 04462; or Millinocket Regional Hospital Auxiliary, 200 Somerset St., Millinocket, ME 04462.
