Phelan – Helen (nee Risko), 99, of Cedar Grove, formerly of Clifton, passed away on Dec. 9, 2011. Born in Passaic, Mrs. Phelan lived there for most of her life before moving to Clifton in 1980. More recently she has been living in Cedar Grove. Before her retirement, Mrs. Phelan was employed with the New Jersey Employment Service in Passaic for 20 years. She also was involved with her family's business, Phelan Radio and Television Service in Passaic for many years. Mrs. Phelan was a former member of the Athenia Reformed Church in Clifton where she had been part of the Ladies Guild. She was predeceased by her husband, Patrick J. Phelan in 1973; one son, Thomas P. Phelan in 2010; her brother, Joseph Risko and her sister, Anne L. Tengi. Survivors include: her son, Brian J. Phelan and his wife, Lynne of Brookside, NJ and her granddaughter, Melissa Phelan. Funeral services were held privately under the direction of the Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, 1313 Van Houten Avenue, Clifton.
