John Joseph Hughes, 69, Branson, MO, and formerly of Kansas City, MO, passed away January 8, 2004. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Thursday, January 15 at St. Bernadette Church. Friends may call 9-10 a.m. Thursday at the church. Private Inurnment in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to St. Mary's Mission, PO Box 39, Tohatchi, NM, c/o Fr. John Mittelstadt, or De La Salle Elementary, Blessed Sacrament Parish, 2540 Hale Ave., Memphis, TN, 38112. Mr. Hughes was born on October 23, 1935, in Kansas City, MO, and had resided in Kansas City until 1996, when he moved to Branson. Mr. Hughes was a member of Our Lady of Lake Catholic Church, Branson. He was preceded in death by his parents, one granddaughter, and one great-grandson. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Nancy Stewart Hughes; two sons, John Joseph Hughes II, Branson, Joseph Michael Hughes and wife Marianne, Memphis, TN; four daughters, Jane Zapien and husband Joe, Raytown, MO, Joan Blair, Oak Grove, MO, Mary Beth Rick, Talladega, AL, and Anne Roberts and husband Andy, Branson; brother Edward F. Hughes III and wife Rose Mary, St. Petersburg, FL; sister Mary Ann Krause and husband Donald, Overland Park, KS; 25 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. (Arr. McGilley Midtown Chapel, 20 W. My heart goes out to the entire Hughes family. Growing up on the same street as you all and our mothers being best friends is only the beginning of our lives. May your father rest in peace and you know he is now with mom and dad laughing and telling stories.
