Kathy Orr

July 10, 1944 - June 4, 2017

Kathy Orr peacefully passed away Sunday, June 4, 2017, at her new residence in Argyle, “The Barndominium”, surrounded by her family.  She was born on July 10, 1944, in Hobbs, New Mexico, to United States Air Force Colonel Earl Fredrickson and Evelyn Romo Fredrickson.  She has a sister Stephanie Calabrese.  Early on Kathy became a world traveler having the good fortune to live in Germany during her elementary school days.  The family was later stationed in San Antonio, where Kathy graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1962 and was voted Most Witty her senior year. Kathy put off her higher education aspirations until much later in her life, when she received her B.B.A. degree from Dallas Baptist University and she did advanced studies at Texas Woman's University and Southern Methodist University.   During the Vietnam War she flew with U.S. military men to that country as a flight attendant. She joined the newly formed Braniff Airlines and worked in that industry until the company failed.

In 1968 Kathy married Bill Orr.  They had two daughters Peyton Orr Swick and Elisha Orr Bomar.  The girls were her pride and joy, and she lived to see the births of her 5 grandchildren.  She was "BACCA" to Brody and Briggs Bomar and Jonas, Caroline and Jack Swick.  Her grandchildren loved to be with her and she was their biggest fan.  She instilled in her girls her love for adventure either by loading them into the car for a road trip or shuttling them onto a plane for Mexico.

Kathy worked tirelessly for many organizations.  She was a Charter Member of the Clear Horizons Department of Ariel Club in 1969 and one of the Founding Members of Denton Benefit League along with Maureen Floyd and Martha Len Nelson in 1973.  She served on the North Texas Fair board of directors, The Thin Line Film Festival board, and she was the admissions director for Selwyn School.  She was a member of GDAC, TAG, the Denton County Women's Golf Association and Denton Country Club, where she loved to play golf.  One friend said, that Kathy was a good golfer, but she could only count to five when playing golf.

Kathy began her successful Real Estate career by partnering with Sue Fickey to establish Property Search in 1985.  Recently her daughter Elisha joined her and they enjoyed working together these last few years.

Kathy was a force of nature, never allowing cancer to stop her from loving life and travel for the past 10 years.  She felt each day was a gift and lived it fully.  She will be remembered with joy and deeply missed.

She is survived by her daughters and sons in law, Peyton and Jason Swick of Argyle and Elisha and Luke Bomar of Argyle, and her grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Sunday June 11, 2017 from 3-5 P.M. at DeBerry Funeral Directors in Denton, Texas.  A Mass will be held on Monday June 12, 2017 at 3 P.M. at St. Mark Catholic Church in Argyle, Texas.

The family requests memorials be made to: Denton Animal Support Foundation, Denton Benefit League, Thin Line Film Festival or the American Cancer Society Fort Worth Chapter.
