Louise Hunter Obituary

HUNTER
Louise, 86, who taught second grade at the Elizabeth Morrow School in Englewood for more than 40 years, died on September 10th in Grinnell, Iowa of complications of Alzheimer's disease.
Louise was born in Pennsylvania in 1926 and grew up in Dallas. She met Ralph Hunter there in the summer of 1948 while he conducted the Starlight Operetta in a performance of the musical Oklahoma. Louise, a music major at Texas State College for Women, was a chorus girl.
After marrying and having two sons, Louise began her teaching career at the Elizabeth Morrow School where she taught from 1956 to 1998. Her dedication to her students and her skills as a teacher were appreciated by all who knew her.
In 1998 Louise and Ralph moved to Iowa after living in Cresskill for 43 years.
Louise loved music, books, and travel. In retirement, she and her husband cruised on the Queen Mary to England, and traveled repeatedly to Italy, especially loving their time in Venice. Among the highlights of her travels in her later years were river cruises down the Rhine in Europe, the Nile in Egypt, and the Yangtze in China. Her last travel adventure was a round-the-world tour that took her from Easter Island to New Guinea, Cambodia, Bhutan, and Ethiopia, Morocco, and back home.
Louise was a strong, bright, dignified, independent woman, a great mother to her two sons, a loyal and loving wife, and a dedicated and inspiring teacher to hundred of young students over the years.
Louise's husband Ralph died in 2002. Louise is survived by two sons, Richard of St. Croix, Virgin Islands, and Christopher of Grinnell, Iowa; four grandchildren; a great-grandson; and a sister, Dorothy Vaughn, of Dallas, Texas.

The memories I have of Louise Hunter are of one very special lady who graced the choir of the Westwood United Methodist Church in Westwood, NJ with her beautiful voice, her gentle ways and her quiet wit - a perfect match for her beloved husband Ralph, the church's director of music for several wonderful years. Louise and Ralph together brought great joy and the best of music to enhance our worship experience. I will always remember Louise for the joy she gave, her kindness, and as a loving and devoted wife and proud mother.

May God bless her family in this time of sorrow, with the assurance that Louise is now with the Lord.
