Marcy Vogel Obituary

Vogel, Marcy L.
Marcy (Lauro) Vogel, 59, of Marlborough was called home to heaven on Thursday, October 24th ending a courageous battle with scleroderma. She was the beloved wife of 36 years of James Vogel. Marcy was born in New Haven on July 10, 1960 to Anthony Lauro and the late Anne Marie (Giammattei) Lauro. She grew up in Northford and was a 1978 graduate of North Branford High School. She went on to attend Fairfield University where she earned a bachelor's degree magna cum laude in political science. It was during a summer job at the Farm Shop restaurant in North Haven that she met a young man, Jim, who would become her best friend and the love of her life. The couple wed in 1983 and moved to Michigan where Marcy began her career as a purchasing agent for General Motors. They returned to Connecticut in 1988 where Marcy worked as a salesperson in the corrugated packaging industry for over 25 years, first for the Jackson Corrugated Company of Middletown and then for Rand-Whitney Corrugated Container Corporation of Worcester, MA, and was consistently recognized as a top performer. Marcy was a deeply devoted daughter, sister, wife and mother who put her heart and soul into everything she did. She was always there to lend a helping hand and a compassionate ear to anyone who needed it, making many friends over the years. She loved being a mother and selflessly volunteered to be homeroom mom and chaperone on many of her son's school field trips. Marcy also loved playing tennis and cooking delicious meals for her family. She always looked for the good in people and was a ray of sunshine who could put a smile on anyone's face. Despite the pain and debilitating nature of the scleroderma, Marcy remained a strong, loving, gracious, kind, and warm person who always put others first. All who knew her are better for it. A beautiful light has gone out and will be sadly missed. Marcy will be forever loved and missed by her husband, Jim, her son Josh Vogel of Marlborough, her father Tony Lauro, her brother Tony Lauro, mother-in-law Edna Vogel, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Gary and Christy Vogel. She also leaves behind nephews Sean and Patrick Vogel, nieces Katie and Emily Lauro, and Karlee Vogel, and aunt Jo-Anne Keane.
Visiting hours will be held Friday evening from 5:00-8:00 at the Iovanne Funeral Home, Inc., 11 Wooster Place in New Haven. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday morning at 10:30 in St. Michael Catholic Church, 29 Wooster Place, New Haven followed by burial at St. Lawrence Cemetery in West Haven. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Scleroderma Foundation, 300 Rosewood Drive, Suite 105, Danvers, MA 01923 or by visiting their website www.scleroderma.org. Tracey, John & family. Love you.

October 31, 2019

Marcy,
The last time I saw you was at a Farm/Flower Stand on Rt. 5 in East Windsor, years ago. You drove your SUV up next to me (standing by flowers) and rolled down your window to ask me a question. Neither of us recognized each other. Our cousin, Nora Kim, was displaying the flowers in front of you and hamming it up. Something told me to ask, Where you were from. Since I only knew of one person/family in Marlborough, I asked if you knew anyone by the last name of Vogel? You looked shocked. I then mentioned Jim's name and you told me that he was your husband. I immediately yelled, Marcy! I introduced/reintroduced you to our cousin, Nora Kim. You parked your car and we hugged. I didn't know that it would be the last time that I would ever see/hug you. May the angels HUG YOU FOREVER!!
Much Love & Many Heavenly Blessings,
Cousin-in-Law, Janet
