MARY ALICE HAWKINS Mary Alice Hawkins nee Elrod, aged 87, passed away in Littleton, CO, on October 28, 2017 due to complications from Alzheimer's. Mary Alice was born November 6, 1931, in Hamilton, Ohio, the youngest child of The Rev and Mrs. Ezekiel Elrod. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Bill, and her sisters, Dorothy and Betty. She is survived by her husband Jim, daughter Sherry, son Chris, and four granddaughters. Mary Alice graduated from Union College, Barbourville, KY, with a double major in Music and English. Her first teaching assignment was in Hotchkiss, Colorado. She next taught at McLaughlin Jr High in Pasco. On November 8, 1958, she married James Hawkins. Her subsequent teaching assignments were at Pasco High School and Columbia Basin College from which she retired. After retirement, Mary Alice studied to become a Deacon and subsequently served at All Saints Episcopal Church in Richland. While she taught English, music was always her first love. Even during the tough times with Alzheimer's, music would bring her to life putting a smile on her face. Services are pending. Memorials may be made in Mary Alice's name to All Saints Episcopal Church, 1322 Kimball Ave, Richland, Washington 99354.
