Richard and I worked together at the Social Security Office in Logan for many years. We both started working there around 1973. Richard was a very fine person and was loved by all. He always had a very good sense of humor. He loved history and enjoyed all kinds of events in the state of West Virginia. He loved the walnut festival, strawberry festival, ramp festival ,band festivals, the West Virginia Mountaineers and so many more. Richard wasn't from Logan but he came here to work and never left. Logan became his home and he also became family to all of us that worked with him. He will be truly missed.Rest in peace my dear friend Richard until we all meet again.

Richard indeed was a West Virginia historian, so proud of his native Roane County and the state's Black Walnut Festival. Had he chosen, Richard would have been an outstanding educator. I always enjoyed the many conversations we had over the years. Thanks Richard for making Logan County a better place.
