Beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother Rose Marie Heckman (nee Corso) passed on May 22, 2019 at Calvary Hospital. Born in the Bronx on April 1, 1924, Rose and her husband George J. Heckman moved to Whitestone, NY in the early 1950's and brought up their 4 children, George Jr., Bob, Bruce and Carolyn. She was always a cheerful and loving mother who was actively involved throughout her children's growth and activities including education, sports, scouting, camping, dance and holidays. Throughout her life, Rose had many friends but enjoyed being with her children and their families most. Her fondest joy was spent at her home in Montauk, walking the beaches, reading, and spending time with family and friends. She was always loving and generous of heart to her surviving children, 11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Professionally, she retired from the NYC Board of Education. Our entire family is forever grateful to Madeline and Joy, Rose's caregivers during the last years of her life in her own home. Viewing is at Martin A. Gleason Funeral Home, 10-25 150th St. Whitestone on Tuesday, May 28th from 2pm-5pm & 7pm-9pm. A Mass celebrating Rose's life will be at 10:15 am Wednesday, May 29th in St. Luke Church, 16-34 Clintonville St. Whitestone. Rose will be laid to rest with George her husband of 63 years at Mt. St. Mary's Cemetery in Flushing. In lieu of flowers, donations in Rose's memory may be made to Calvary Hospital, 1740 Eastchester Road, Bronx, NY 10461.
