Ruth E. Hiltabidel (nee Cunningham), 89 years of age, and a resident of Lorain, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2006, at Community Health Partners in Lorain, Ohio, after a brief illness. She was born Sept. 15, 1916, in Ohiopyle. She has been a resident of the Lorain area since 1953. She was employed with the Amherst School System at Powers Elementary for 24 years, retiring in 1980 as a third-grade teacher. Ruth was a member, former treasurer, and active in the Ladie's Circle of the Old Stone United Methodist Church in Amherst. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, reading, traveling and her cats. Survivors include her sons and daughter-in-laws, Gail G. and Kathy Hiltabidel and Paul R. and Carol Hiltabidel, both of Lorain; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Gilbert David Hiltabidel, on May 23, 1987; by her great-grandson, Kyle; by nine brothers and sisters; and by her parents, Robert and Tobitha Cunningham (nee Morrison). Friends may call Friday, Aug. 18, 2006, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the HEMPEL FUNERAL HOME, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Aug. 19, 2006, at 11 a.m. from the funeral home. The Rev. Gary Ihasz, pastor of Old Stone United Methodist Church in Amherst, will officiate. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township. The family suggests the memorial contributions be made to Old Stone United Methodist Church, 553 S. Main St., Amherst 44001.
