Violet P. McClurkin, 90, passed away Sunday, Sept. 24, 2017, at the caring and loving community of MorningStar in Idaho Falls surrounded by her immediate family.
Violet was born in Southern California to Albert and Anna Rosier along with a sister and brother and met her husband Mac when they both attended Venice High School.
Violet and Mac married April 23, 1949, and lived in California for many years before moving to Idaho. At the start of their life together, Violet worked at Hughes Aircraft in the photography division, helping to support her husband while he earned a degree in mechanical engineering.
Violet and Mac led an active life and spent a lot of time outdoors, swimming, camping, fishing and hiking. The family graduated from tent camping to the relative luxury of a trailer, but never lost their love of the outdoors. Violet loved to sunbathe and bowl and also supported her young children actively in their pursuits, including Indian Guides and Boy Scouts with her son and Campfire Girls (for which she was a co-leader), ballet and piano with her daughter. She and her husband did a lot of traveling in their little Terry trailer, including many fly-ins with other remote-control and airplane enthusiasts, and they formed lifelong friendships with many fine people.
They moved to Idaho Falls in the early 1970s and lived for over 40 years among well loved neighbors near the Idaho Falls airport.
She is survived by her beloved husband of over 68 years, Justus (Mac) McClurkin; son, Scott McClurkin; daughter, Suzanne McClurkin-Nelson; grandchildren, Willis Norton III, Karli Green, Alexandra Nelson-Ponce, Jesse Nelson, Amanda McClurkin and Ariann McClurkin; and great-grandson, Levi Green.
Violet was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Albert (Red); and sister, Ella.
The McClurkin family would like to extend our gratitude to all the staff at Fairwinds Retirement Community and MorningStar Senior Living for their attentive and loving care.
Violet will be remembered by many as a generous and loyal friend, an enthusiastic helper and a loving partner.
A memorial service will be held at Buck-Miller-Hann Funeral Home in Idaho Falls on Friday, Oct. 27, at 6:30 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of Buck Miller Hann Funeral Home.

I was so sad to read about VI's passing. I knew Vi when I worked at the hospital. I thought she was so nice, kind, and sweet. She was a very special friend and person. Please accept my condolences.
