Mary A. Anderson

Poughkeepsie - Mary A. Anderson, 84, a resident of Poughkeepsie for 70 years plus and previously of NYC passed away on June 9, 2013 at St. Francis Hospital. Mary was born on August 31, 1928 in NYC to the late Freeman and Dorothy Hawkins. She was educated in the Poughkeepsie School District. On December 17, 1950 Mary married Eugene E. Anderson in Poughkeepsie, NY who predeceased her March 14, 2011. Mary worked 35 years as a Staff Attendant at Hudson River State Hospital in Poughkeepsie, NY.

Mary was a member of Beulah Baptist Church in Poughkeepsie, NY. She enjoyed visiting Atlantic City, NJ; playing bingo; reading novels, and completing jigsaw puzzles.

Survivors include daughters; Rhonda Anderson of Unalaska, AK, Carla Short of Woodland Park, CO, Monique Anderson of Beacon, NY, grandchildren; Michael Short (Army) Afghanistan, Katie Boyd of Oceanside, CA, Mercedes Mills of Beacon, NY, Maclean Short of Moreno Valley, CA, Destinee Davila of Beacon, NY, 5 great-grandchildren, a step-brother; Richard Stroman, children of her heart; Anthony Marquez of Wappinger's Falls, NY , and Lynne Elting of Fort Mills, SC, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A memorial service is Saturday, June 15, 2013, 11AM at the Joseph J. Darrow Sr. Funeral Home Inc. 39 So Hamilton St. Poughkeepsie, NY 12601 845-452-1840. Burial is at the convenience of the family. I worked with Mary on the 12 to 8 shift on the admission ward of the Cheney Building. She was such a wonderful person and she made coming to work a pleasure. I an so sorry for the familys loss.

Iremember most stretching out on her floor as a kid and into my teens,scarfing oreos and milk and Ma Anderson being one of my GO-TO people when I needed to talk.Oh my God! her laugh when something really tickled her. She is loved and in God's hands...
