Mortimer W. Hall
Millbrook - Mortimer W. Hall a resident of Millbrook, New York, died at home, on March 2, 2012. The cause of death was a heart attack, his wife Penelope Hall said.
He was born on July 21, 1924, in New York City, the son of Dorothy Schiff, former Editor-in-Chief and Publisher of The New York Post, and Richard Hall. He attended the St. Bernard's School, The Oxford Academy, & Carnegie Tech. He served in the US Army in World War II. He was previously married to Mary Ann Parker, Ruth Roman and Diana Lynn who died tragically young.
He moved to Los Angeles, California after the war, when he bought and served as Chief Executive Officer and President of radio station KLAC.
Hall returned to Manhattan with his family in 1969 to take on the duties of Treasurer of The New York Post. In the second half of his life, he married the former Penelope Coker and they moved with their children to the countryside of Millbrook, N. Y. where he engaged in farming and fox hunting. He served on the Board of Directors of the Bank of Millbrook and was also a member of the Millbrook Golf and Tennis Club and the Leash Club in Manhattan. A life long and avid sailor, Mortimer Hall was a longtime member of the The New York Yacht Club, and The Carolina Yacht Club in Charleston, South Carolina.
Mr. Hall is survived by his beloved wife of forty years, Penelope Coker Hall, his children Richard Hall, Matthew Hall, Dorothy Hall, Mary Hall Howland, Margaret Hall, his step daughter, Eliza Ingle, his grandchildren Amanda and Diana Howland and Jake Kochman, and his sisters Adele Hall Sweet and Sarah Ann Kramarsky.
An animal lover, he was never happier than when in the company of his beloved dogs and horses.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 11, 2012 at 2 o'clock at Grace Church, Franklin Avenue, Millbrook, New York. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Aikindale Thorough Rescue, http://www.akindalehorserescue.org/index.php/about-akindale.html
