Donald J. Abruzzo
MILLBROOK - Donald J. Abruzzo, 82, of Millbrook died peacefully at MidHudson Regional Hospital on Wednesday, February 8, 2017, surrounded by his wife Daisy, his children Grace, Joseph, Margaret, and Teresa, and his daughter-in-law Joan. He had two granddaughters, Lucy and Mary Rose. Don is also survived by a sister, Ann Timke. He earned Bachelor's and Master's degrees at Fordham, then worked on a Ph.D. in English at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. Don knew eight languages, including Sanskrit and Hittite. He worked as a sales representative to gift stores, then took what he called an exit-level job in a restaurant. He was a parishioner of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Don loved classical music, home-cooked food, reading, and Sudoku.
Visitation will be 4-8 on Friday, Feb. 10th at Allen Funeral Home , 3270 Franklin Ave., Millbrook. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Msgr. Gerardo Colacicco on Saturday, Feb. 11th at 10 AM at St. Stanislaus Church , 1590 Main St., Pleasant Valley.
Burial will follow in Nine Partners Cemetery , Millbrook. Memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph's Church, PO Box 439, Millbrook, NY 12545 or to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, 980 Park Avenue, NY, NY 10028.

I was a classmate of Don and Daisy at UNC many years ago, and I am very glad to learn that he led such a rich life after those years. I would love to be in touch with Daisy now--I hope she will send an email to me at [email protected]
