Edith M. Bennett
Poughkeepsie - After a long and heroic battle with lung cancer, Edith Bennett passed away at the age of 77 on July 19, 2016.
She was born on January 12, 1939 in Yonkers, NY. She was the daughter of Anthony and Antoinette Mazzie. She held several jobs and volunteer positions in the Mid Hudson Valley for the better part of the past 35 years. Places of employment included Shaw Motors of Beacon, Command Airways of Wappingers Falls, and Premier Bank of Poughkeepsie. Her tremendous work ethic has been successfully passed down to her children and grandchildren. For the past 10 years she has been a passionate volunteer for Meals on Wheels in Poughkeepsie, NY. She was a devout parishioner of St. Martin dePorres Church in Poughkeepsie.
She was predeceased by her loving husband of 42 years John Gordon Bennett. She is survived by the children she adored, John Bennett and his wife Patti of Fishkill, NY, and Laura Yoder and her husband Kevin of Litchfield Park, AZ. She is also survived by 4 grandchildren, Jenna Eagan of Litchfield Park, AZ, Matthew Eagan of Hyde Park NY and fiancé Cate Cason, Cory Bennett of West Chester, PA, and Shannon Bennett of Fishkill, NY. She has also left behind many dear friends.
Her family was most important to her and she has enthusiastically followed the progress and transition of her grandchildren from childhood to adulthood. She was a woman with many interests and hobbies. She was an avid bridge player, bingo player, expert in Presidential trivia, loyal viewer of the gameshow Jeopardy, and a devoted fan of the NY Mets and Jets.
Calling hours will be held on Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Avenue, Poughkeepsie. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday at 10:00 at St. Martin dePorres Church, 118 Cedar Valley Road, Poughkeepsie. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
Memorial donations in Edith's honor may be made to Meals on Wheels of Greater Poughkeepsie (http://www.mealsonwheelsofgp.com) or directly to Meals on Wheels, 100 Cannon Street, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.

I remember Edith from our aqua classes quite a few years ago...She was a delightful lady and I am sorry for your loss...This is a lovely picture of her..It is how I remember her..My sincere condolences
