Richard Cohen
East Fishkill - Richard Charles Cohen, an East Fishkill, NY resident since 2012, died at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, NY on Saturday, May 13, 2017. He was 49.
Son of the late Morton C. and Katherine M. (Doyle) Cohen, he was born in Ipswich, MA on May 16, 1967. Richard lived in Essex,MA from birth until his late teens. He then moved to Ipswich, where he owned and operated "Marty's Donut Land" after his father passed the family business to him after his death in 1990. Richard operated the business for many years, up until his retirement in 2015. "Marty's Donut Land" was very well known in Ipswich as a hometown coffee shop, famous for it's "Hot Honeydip Donuts" and it's strong cup of coffee. The business had been in the family since 1956. Richard also resided in Rowley, MA. After Richie developed health issues, he moved to East Fishkill to reside with his Brother Robert and his wife Tania and their 3 children Nadia, Aidan and Aaron where he seamlessly blended in to the family's activities. Though he had challenges ambulating and using his hands, he desired "Daily purpose" and then worked at Dr Melville Hughes and Tania Cohen Dermatology for 5 years as an administrative assistant.
Richard is known for his love of Music, attention to detail, gadgets and problem solving. He had such a deep devoted love for his nieces and nephews and would give them unlimited time and attention. Even though he had a tough exterior and was known as a "bad ass" , he was a sentimental mush who knew every word to the "Notebook" and loved the Hallmark channel.
Richard taught us that even through disability and pain, you must continue to have a purpose and keep pushing through. Even though his body was failing him, he never gave up, he fought - adjusting to the challenges each day would bring.
He is survived by his sister, Mechelle Doyle of Ipswich, MA, his brother, Robert Cohen and his wife Tania Cohen of East Fishkill, NY; and their children Nadia, Aidan and Aaron. His niece Stephanie Doyle and his great-nephew, Baxter of Wells ME. Also his brother's mother-in-law, Dagmar "Oma" Bannura; and many other loving relatives & friends.
Calling hours will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, May 19 at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. Interment will be at Fishkill Rural Cemetery.

Robbie and Michelle, I was blessed to have so many wonderful memories with your brother. I met him when I was 14 and we watched each other grow over the years; supporting each other through good times and bad. Richie was a generous man that had a smile that could light up a room. He had such a love for children that would warm my heart to just watch. Richie will always have a very special place in my heart.
