Mr. Peeling was my teacher. 1990. He was smart and kind. I actually loved his class because of the way he taught us. My he rest in peace.

Mr peeling was truly an exceptional teacher. He caused you to think about the world and think about things in the world. He traveled a lot and I remember he had a small jar of crude oil that he obtained on one of his trips. He displayed it in his classroom with a simple sign on it that asked "how long will it last?" This was 1963 when gasoline was about 26 cents a gallon and America was at the height of empire. Very few, if any, people were asking that question. Very insightful in light of what happened with oil just 10 years later. That was Mr Peeling: he got you to think. My most vivid memory of Mr peeling was sitting in his 9th grade history class on Friday, November 22, 1963 There was to be a school dance(Haviland Jr High School)that night. He suddenly left the room for just a few moments and , when he returned he said " if what I just heard is true, there won't be any dance tonight". Then the PA system came on and the entire school was told the news. Kennedy was shot. We all went home that day not knowing kennedys fate. By the time we got home, the media was saying he was dead. There was no dance. Thank you Mr Peeling for being one of the best in the best school system on the planet , the American school system. I hope we can get back there.

Eileen and Family:
I am so sorry to hear of Bob's passing.
We spent many years together as team teachers at Haviland from the early 70's right through to his retirement and as cast mates in Finian's Rainbow.
I was so happy to see that Paleolithic Peeling was mentioned in his tribute that appears here. No doubt his students will recall it and they will also credit Bob with being able to recite all of the counties of New York State in alphabetical order.
Always full of humorous stories about his early days at Haviland, I have often thought of him over the years and have remembered him as a man of dedication to the profession and as one with a sincere interest in the achievements of his students. A kind and caring person.
God speed, My Friend.
