Remembering with pleasure and appreciation, the guidance of Don and Lois when we were students at Scattergood (1949-1953). Lois prepared breakfast for farm crew on Monday mornings after the milking was done so the crew could spend the forenoon doing more chores. Don was also freshman science teacher. His patient and gentle ways set an excellent example for curious and energetic young folks.

In later years we looked to his leadership in energy conservation and wise care of our Mother Earth.

With love to your family ,

Ellis and Winifred Standing

I met Don in 1962 when he worked as a gifted laboratory technician at University Hospital. I have not seen him in 40 years but I remember him as a quiet man of impressive intellectual and moral wisdom who lived his vision of a proper life. He was an extraordinary man.

Don was a pioneer for renewable energy in Iowa, and a great humanitarian. We who knew him will miss his gentle counsel.
I wish I had been more forceful in suggesting to him that allowing paraffin or any hydrocarbon to touch EPDM was a bad idea.

Don Was a true gentleman, scholar, and a man of principal. Pat and I were truly blessed in knowing Don and Lois for many years through mutual love of science and renewable energy.
