1/25/56 - 2/19/21 It is with great sadness we announce our dear Louie was called to Heaven suddenly on 2/19/2021. Louie was born in San Pedro and lived his whole life in the South Bay. He attended Mary Star Elementary and then Fermin Lasuen. From Fermin he went to Bishop Montgomery High School where he met his sweetheart, Teri Burger, who would later become his wife. Lou was a star football player in his high school years. He was awarded a full athletic scholarship to attend UCLA and proudly became a Bruin. Lou married Teri in 1980 and together they had two beautiful daughters, Lindsey and Erica. Louie was later blessed with one of his greatest joys in life, Bradley, his grandson who is now 4 years old. He owned Lou Mascola Landscape, a successful business he built from the ground up. He was hardworking at everything he did including golf, which became one of his favorite passions. Genuine and charismatic, Lou brightened every room and conversation he entered. His playful, funny, and light-hearted attitude brought joy to all his relationships. He was kind, caring, and loved by so many people. He loved his family dearly and is survived by his parents, Lou and Theresa; his wife of 40 years Teri; daughters Lindsey, with Ryan and grandson Bradley, and Erica; and his siblings Denise and Mike Foley, Janine Mascola, and John and April Mascola. He was "Uncle Louie" to Matt, Kevin, Niki, and Mikey Foley; Jennifer, Danielle, and Melissa Hendriks; Zoe, Sofie, and Marco Mascola. He is also survived by a countless number of friends. He was a one of a kind person whose passing has left an immense void in our lives. He will be missed dearly. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

When I learned of Louie passing it was very sad. I knew Louie since he was a kid. My father Nick and I would see him with Big Lou (Coach) and talk about how he was already moving like a football player. Over the years when we would run into each other we would share stories about our fathers and football and life. What I remember most was when I drove away from our visit I “always “ felt enriched for having seen Louie.I like many others will miss him. My deepest sympathy and respect to the Mascola family.

We are beyond shocked and saddened to hear of Louie’s sudden passing.
We lived across the street from Teri’s mom and dad and attended their wedding in 1980. Our son “Bradley” was born that year and Louie was so good to him, always bringing gifts of trucks to him. Our hearts go out to Teri and her family. We would to celebrate his life with you, Teri.

I had the distinct pleasure of being Louis’ classmate for eight years in elementary school at Marty Star. Louis stood out as someone with many blessings - Athletic - Energetic - Charismatic - Intelligent - Supportive - Kind. He set the goalpost for many of us yet was humble in helping us all along the way. As I met Louis in later years, he still carried that same charm and presence as an entrepreneur. I know that Louis is now running hard on that shining gridiron in the sky. Louis, you are still our team captain - we Love you. Pray for us!

I was shocked when I heard the terribly sad news of Louie's passing. He was my childhood friend and teammate. We traveled to a National tournament in Indiana in 1969. Louie was our team Enforcer. I have many fond memories of our successes together on the court. I feel fortunate that I was able to see him 4 years ago. Sending prayers and my condolences to the entire Mascola Family. RIP Big Lou.

My Heart breaks for the loss of a truly special man. My prayers go out to the Mascola family. He loved you all so dearly.
I had the opportunity to be gifted with his kindness on many landscape project. He could make it happen. I never worried. He’d always say what do you want, we’ll make it happen. We worked together for years on some great projects in Catalina. He’d get his sleep over and back on the boat. After his hip surgery he showed up on the island during installation day for the Casino. He had a way with getting his crew to jump into action. He always said he wanted to retire, but really he loved his work and his crew. He had such a big heart. He never met a stranger. It’s really not fair the world will be without such a kind man. I selfishly don’t know how to fill his void, working together. My life was enriched by his gift of friendship. Rest In Peace, your work is done. Much Love

I was extremely saddened by the news of Louie's passing. I've known Louie for 30 plus years. We played racquetball together, watched a lot of football games on the weekends, partied in Vegas together and went to numerous UCLA football games. We just had a long talk the day before his death. I have so many text messages from Louie which I will always cherish. I think about him every day and will miss him terribly. The south bay will never be the same. My condolences to Teri and the entire Mascola family. RIP my friend. Until we meet again...Ed (Bear) Sarkisian

After spending 20 years sharing offices together I was so sad to hear of Louie’s passing. He was the most disciplined person I ever knew. We laughed, shared countless sushi lunches and enjoyed the Colorado River jet ski runs. Anyone who was around him had a genuine impartation of humor, genuineness and kindness. The SB community is rocked by this departure. I am Asking to be Louie’s neighbor in heaven.

I Had a professional business relationship with Lou for the last twenty years. Over that time I was fortunate enough to work with Lou on numerous projects in the South Bay. As the years went by and I spent more time with Lou the conversations we shared over lunch or on the golf course changed from strictly business to personal and I got to learn about Lou’s genuine love that he had for his wife and daughters as well as how much he loved being a Grandpa. In return Lou also got to know about me and my family and he would always ask about them and was eager to hear how my kids were doing in school and sports. Lou was a great guy and an absolute joy to be around. I will miss my friend Lou and the good times we had together whether it was talking and designing landscape lighting for one of his projects or listening to him tell me about him and his pesky little Bruins victory over Ohio St in the Rose Bowl. Lou was a good dude!

Many Hugs and Prayers for the Mascola family and all of Lou’s friends. Much Love

To entire Mascola , our hearts were broken when Lou was suddenly called home last week by the Lord. I was one of the Lucky ones to be able to call Lou a dear friend for almost 5 decades. I am blessed to have hundreds and hundreds of memories, from hundreds of times of dinners, parties, Birthdays, trips to Colorado River, to dozens of trips to Las Vegas and Palm Springs, to watching football on the weekends at your house (had to watch UCLA on Saturdays of course), I could go on and on. its only been a week I miss you like Hell Man. Thank You for being in my life. Love You Bud , RIP until we meet again.

To Teri and the entire Mascola family, I had the honor of being a teammate of Louie and it was evident from the moment he set foot on the field he was destined to be a star. As tremendous of a football player and teammate he was, Louie was an even better person. He always had a kind word whenever our paths would cross. And of course that smile. I had the utmost respect and love for Lou as I know everyone of his teammates did as well. My thoughts, prayers and love are with you all during this difficult time.
