Johnny Wallis Obituary

Johnny Eugene Wallis, a longtime Pahrump resident and building contractor, passed away on March 28, 2020. He was 82.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Eulah Wallis of Pahrump; his sons, Leslie Wallis of Memphis, Tenn., and Wesley (Kimberly) Wallis of Pahrump; his daughter, Tammy (Geoffrey) Schumacher of Las Vegas; five granddaughters, Allison Legere, Amanda Wallis and Colleen Dalziel, all of Pahrump; Erin Schumacher Stern of Oak Park, Ill., and Sara Schumacher of St. Louis Park, Minn.; three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wally Wallis and Emma Morera; brothers Arthur and Jerry; and a sister, Helen Thomas.

He was born May 6, 1937, in Crane, Mont., and grew up in Imperial, Calif., graduating from Imperial Valley High School in 1956. He worked for a crop duster, as a school bus driver and carpenter before being drafted into the U.S. Army. He served from 1960-1962, stationed at Fort Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska. He owned a successful contracting business in Salinas, Calif., and owned and operated two commercial salmon trawlers out of Moss Landing, Calif. He relocated to Pahrump in 1980, working as a carpenter at the Tonopah Test Range and Area 51 military base before founding J. Wallis Construction Company. He specialized in stand-alone garages, and built many of them across the Pahrump Valley.

John had a lifelong love of fishing, and he was always generous and selfless with family and friends.
