I visited Austin every fortnight. We always had a good chat on all sorts of things, history, politicians and gardening, to name a few. He was always a pleasure regardless of what may have been going on in his life.
Very sad for him and his family and friends, and for the local community.

I'll miss your humour, mate. And your deep interest in anything "Narrabundahish".We had some fun taking on the developers. I fondly remember the to-scale toy bus you popped in the to-scale development for Kingston Foreshore. It put the chap right off his presentation as the bus clearly could not go round the corners of the little roads.Vale Austin.

The Inner South Canberra Community Council (ISCCC) was very saddened to learn of Austin's death. He was a member of the ISCCC Committee since our establishment in 2010, and was on the committee of the Old Narrabundah Community Council even longer.

Austin had a passion for the history of the inner south, and a commitment to serving his local community. He would often find fantastic old photos of familiar places in Canberra and upload them to the website of the Old Narrabundah Community Council. Many of those photos are still there. Every year he was involved in organizing the Narrabundah community festival near the Narrabundah shops. That festival is an annual fixture in the calendar of the Narrabundah community and the broader community.

We will miss Austin. May he rest in peace.

Marea Fatseas, Chair, Inner South Canberra Community Council
