Russell McQueeney, 69, of Berlin, son of the late Annette and John Edward McQueeney, died last week at home.
He attended school in New Britain at St. Matthews Lutheran Church, graduated from Berlin High School, and Middlesex Community College, as was a lifelong resident of Berlin..
He was employed for most of his adult life at Van Way Webco, working his way up from printer to graphic design. He was proud to have served in the U.S. Navy. His last job driving a bus for retirement home he found particularly rewarding, as he was able to take folks on rides while simultaneously leading them in sing-alongs.
In his younger years, Russ cherished the friends he made at Berlin High School. He especially enjoyed his role as Co-Captain of the Football team with Tom Holligan, and performing in a band, "The Fabulous Expressions" with best friends Tom Zigmont and George Young. Some of his passions in life were fishing, camping, photography, cooking, gardening, hitting the beach, music, and dancing. He became an accomplished DIYer around the home and yard.
Later in life, he greatly enjoyed the special friendship he had with Cynthia Hutchinson, her 2 daughters Cherylyn Lockery of Cheshire and Laura Raywood of Newington, and 2 granddaughters Angelina and Caroline Lockery, to whom he was affectionately known as Pop pop.
He is survived by his daughter Corey Lynn Koeller of Plainville, his grandaughter Morgan Koeller, dearest friend Cynthia Hutchinson of Newington, six brothers, Ralph McQueeney of The Villages, Florida, Mark McQueeney of New Castle, Indiana, Paul McQueeney of Bristol, Jonathan McQueeney of Westerly R.I., Gerald McQueeney of Plainville, and Scott Calderone of Berlin, two sisters; Annette Tweedie of Conroe, Texas, and Margaret Mac of Clearwater, Florida, along with eighteen nieces and nephews.
