Joanne S. Cox, age 73, passed away unexpectedly on March 25, 2021. Joanne was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania to George Sherk and Elizabeth "Betty" Grier. Joanne graduated from West Chester State College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Education and was active in many activities and organizations, including being the captain of the Women's Gymnastics team, Alpha Sigma Alpha, and the Valkyries. Joanne continued her education and graduated from Wake Forest University with a Masters of Arts in Physical Education. She taught physical education in the West Point, Highland Falls, and Fort Montgomery school districts, and founded the women's lacrosse team at James I O'Neill High School. Through these efforts she was able to continue to coach and influence many of the families within the local community.
Joanne was an active member of the Cornwall Presbyterian Church, serving as a Deacon and teaching confirmation classes. She also shared her love of gardening as a member of the Cornwall Garden Club.

Joanne Sherk and I attended Susquehanna Twp. High School in Harrisburg, PA. In our senior year, she was elected by the student body as Miss Susquehanna, a singular distinction to be sure. Jo was a beauty, inside and out. She was one of our class' best, admired and respected for her engaging personality and contributions to school life. May God bless and sustain her family through this season of grief and loss.
