I was at Fontana High when Mr. Camp -- I'll always think of him that way -- was the choir director. I graduated in 1961. My sister was in the A Capella group and I sang in the regular chorus. He gave us both lifelong love and -- important! -- knowledge of music, curiosity about it, courage to try it as participants and as audience. I have thought of him with warm affection millions of times over the years. I will forever recall that silly joy that came with learning Lolly-Pop in many-part harmony, and seeing him drag in the boys he found skiving off, smoking outside the music room, and making them sing. It was the purist expression of optimism I've ever seen, I believe. I wish I'd been able to say thanks -- millions of thanks!

I spoke to Tom Piorkwoski last night to tell him that Virgil passed away and we had a wonderful talk about what wonderful memories we had with this Beautiful Man and what a mentor his was to us all.. We traveled and sang and shared fantastic memories.. He also entertained us while we were singing.. His face told us all how we were doing.. :) Virgil came to our 30th Union and we had a few of us there and he directed us with the Alma Mater for Fontana High School. It was a wonderful experience for us and his expressed to me how he felt to direct us ONE MORE TIME.. He was smiling the whole time.. SO we're we..
We love you Mr. Virgil Camp and appreciate all you taught us in our years in High School... We even have our own album. I had it made into a DVD and now my Granddaughters listen to it and said " Nana you all should have gone professional..
God Bless you and Rest in Peace.

This man made a big impression on young musicians at Fontana High the late 1950s and early 1960s. He taught us many great and fun songs. His attitude was contagious. He led our chorale in special music for my father's funeral. I'm glad I was a part of his choral groups. My sympathy to his family

Always enjoyed his smile, humble personality and his great singing voice.
