GALESBURG - Jeanne Colleen Magnuson, 69, Galesburg, died peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer at 1:40 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, 2020, at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.

Jeanne, the daughter of Gerald and Juanita (Berry) Harris, was born March 30, 1951, in Olney. She married Howard Magnuson on May 30, 1977, in Tuscola.

Jeanne is survived by her husband of 43 years, Howard of Galesburg; her son, Sam (Abbey) Magnuson of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin; her brother, Gerald (Mary Jo) Harris of Winnetka; and two grandchildren, Mason and Amelia Magnuson. Jeanne is further survived by several nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by both of her parents.

Jeanne graduated from Edwards County High School, Albion, in 1969. She went on to attend the University of Illinois Chicago Medical Center, graduating in 1973 with a degree in nursing. Jeanne worked as a registered nurse for several years at various locations including Mass General in Boston, Carle Clinic in Champaign and the Galesburg Clinic. She also worked as a home health care nurse in Galesburg. Jeanne enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking, reading and watching baseball. She had a love for music, which included playing the piano, listening to classical music, singing, and attending the Knox-Galesburg Symphony.

Jeanne attended Bethel Baptist Church and lived her life in accordance with her favorite Bible verse, Joshua 1:9: "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, The Lord your God will be with you wherever you go." Jeanne was an incredibly courageous and gracious woman, always putting others and family first.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 25, 2020, at Bethel Baptist Church, with Pastor Scott Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Galva Cemetery. Howard and family, may God strengthen and comfort you in your deep loss of dear Jeanne. She was a very special woman and a friend to many. We had great times of joyful instructions in farm life from you both when we were all just kids!!! She lived through the power of Christ in the good and hard times. He will comfort you in all your grief.

Dear Howard and Samuel, we will remember Jeanne as a wonderful example of a woman of faith. She believed in her God in spite of her illness and encouraged those around from afar. We will also remember the great times of fellowship and seminars we had together, and we still have photos of our son, Timothy, sitting on one of your farm tractors. God bless and comfort you with His best blessings and deepest love.

The Bible verse in Joshua must have guided Jeanne through all her health issues—she was such a courageous person; she kept going when most of us would have given up the battle! She loved her family so much; I’m so glad she was able to see her grandchildren. And, I feel honored to have been a high school classmate & friend. It was so good to see Jeanne & Howard @ our 50th class reunion last year. May God bless & give the family strength and peace during this time of loss.

Howard and Samual, my heart breaks for you both. Jeanne was a hero that I looked up to from a distance as I fought my own cancer battle. She was so very graceful in how she handled it. I love to remember she came out to support Samuel at baseball. Benjamin and I often prayed for you all. Try to remember those good days......and look up for your strength as you go through your grief. We will continue to pray for your family. With out love,
