Michael Ray Sargeant
Michael Ray Sargeant, 74, passed away peacefully at the home of his son on December 23, 2020. Mike was a native Galesburg boy and married a native Galesburg girl, Rossie née Gowler, in 1965. They made it to Knoxville before settling back in Galesburg to raise their two sons, Shad and Matthew. Mike served in the Army in Louisiana, California, Georgia, and Vietnam from 1969-71. He went on to work at Gates Rubber in Galesburg for decades while enjoying golf, cards, sports events, and spending time with his family and dogs. During the last few years of his life, his kind and lighthearted manner made him popular with his customers at Hyvee Gas Station. He was generous with his time and resources, had an old-fashioned sense of humor, and was perpetually whistling a jaunty tune under his breath. He brought joy to the people around him and he will be deeply missed. He was predeceased by his parents, Kenneth and Delilah Sargeant, his brothers, Robert, Delbert, Larry, Kenneth Jr., Edward Sr., Clyde, John, and Ricky, his sister, Carolyn, and his wife, Rossie. He is survived by his sisters, Lois, Janice, and Linda, his brother, James, and his sons, Matthew and Shad, among other family. No service will be held at this time. Donations can be made to Illinois CancerCare Center in Michael Sargeant's name.
