GALESBURG - Lester "Boo" Spinks, 67, Galesburg, died at 9:20 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 2, 2018, at Kindred Hospital, Peoria.
Boo was born May 4, 1951, in Galesburg the son of AC and Laura Irene (Blaylock) Spinks. He married Phyllis K. Shannon. They later divorced. Boo is survived by his children, Michael, Victor, Jelicija, Chavoine, Lester Jr., Rockyen, Legan, Sonya, Troy, and Mookie; and 12 grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, Curtis (Wanda) Spinks and Heston (Kathy) Spinks; sisters, Estherline (Grant) Duncan, LouAnnette (Henry) Mayberry, Cynthia (Dean) Morrison, Tuesday Spinks, Doreene Cherry, and Theresa Spinks. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Rev. Calvin Spinks, Corina Spinks, Robert Spinks, and AC Spinks Jr.; and sisters, Mattie Mixon and Emma Sargent.
Boo worked as a machinist at OMC Gale Products, Admiral, and retired from Maytag. He loved to cook and was an avid outdoorsman. He spent several years coaching the JFL Packers when his sons were younger. Boo was also a St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan and was a proud cousin of boxer Leon Spinks.
Visitation will be 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, 2018, at First Lutheran Church, Galesburg. Funeral will follow at 11 a.m. with Rev. Yvette Mixon officiating. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg. Arrangements have been entrusted to Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Lester, was kind, funny and looked out after me like a big brother when we were in the same place. I'm sure he will be missed by his family and friends.
