John McLaughlin Obituary

GALESBURG - John Daniel McLaughlin, 84, Galesburg, died at 6:56 a.m. Thursday, May 30, 2019, in Unity Point Health Methodist Hospital in Peoria.

John was born Dec. 29, 1934, in Monmouth, to Edward and Mary (Cavanaugh) McLaughlin.

He is survived by his children, Marcus McLaughlin of Davenport, Iowa, and Anne Marie Klapperich of Milan; one sister, Grace (Dr. Robert) Jones of Des Moines, Iowa; and three grandchildren, Jackson, Alec and Owen. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, James McLaughlin; and two sisters, Rosemary O'Malley and Joann Magnuson.

John attended eight years and graduated from Immaculate Conception Catholic School, where his moral compass was set for life. John graduated from Monmouth College in 1957 with a degree in accounting. After college, John worked in business for many years until his retirement.

Cremation will be accorded. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 8, 2019, at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Monmouth. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel is assisting the family with cremation arrangements. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
