DEER ISLE, Maine - Mary (Polly) Sharp Holley Doremus died at home comforted by her family on Friday Aug. 13, 2010 after a brief illness. Born in Hartford Connecticut Jan. 24, 1915. She lived with her husband William Swift Doremus in Harwinton, for most of her life.
She volunteered for many organizations for which she received multiple service awards including an accommodation from the President of the United States. Anthony Shelter for Battered Women, Polly's Dream a thrift store created to raise funds to support Susan B. Anthony and to provide affordable clothes and house wares to the community. Polly moved to Deer Isle, Maine in 2006 and continued her community service with the church and garden club, She gardened, boated, entertained, traveled and was active in the community up until her death. Polly lived life to the fullest. Her home was always full of friends and family, never did she turn away an opportunity to contribute to a cause she felt important or share what she had with others.
