J. Rugh Obituary

J Palmer Rugh, 80, went to be with his Lord and Savior on February 5, 2018. Palmer was born to John and Myrtle Cribbs Rugh on January 27, 1938 and was the youngest of three siblings. Palmer grew up in Westfield, NJ and graduated from Penn State University with his undergraduate and master's degrees. In 1958, he went on a summer Experiment in International Living to Norway. On the boat, he met his future wife, Mary Ruth Dunlap, from Denver, CO. They married in 1961. Palmer worked as an engineer and business analyst for DuPont in Flint, MI, Philadelphia, PA and Wilmington, DE. Palmer and Mary made their home in Media, PA where they raised their two children, John and Katie. At age 39, Palmer was diagnosed with MS. This did not hinder Palmer from being active and involved in many activities. He enjoyed golf, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, family vacations to Colorado, trips to Shohola, PA, and fishing. They were active members of Media Presbyterian Church which included the youth programs, choir, and Bible studies. Palmer's outlook on life has been a blessing to many as he demonstrated faith in a loving God, trust in His perfect plan, and a positive attitude in the face of declining physical abilities. Palmer and Mary moved to Colorado in 1992 after Palmer retired to be near their son, daughter, and grandchildren. They had many Colorado adventures together traveling in the mountains they so dearly loved. Palmer's wife died in 1995 after 33 years of marriage. In 1996, Palmer married Cheryl Klein White and they were married 21 years. They enjoyed many activities together, traveling throughout Colorado, the United States, and Europe. They were birdwatchers for Colorado Parks and Wildlife and routinely watched eagle and osprey nests. Palmer enjoyed being a part of his grandchildren's and great grandchildren's lives, attending countless sporting events and music programs. He has left them a legacy of faith, trust, and devotion to our loving God. Palmer will forever be remembered for his love of fishing, bird watching, and the value of relationships. Palmer was also an active member of Mountain View Presbyterian Church where he sang bass in the choir and in From the Heart quartet, was a hospital deacon and treasurer and was involved with many other committees and activities over the years. Palmer and Cheryl also served at the Community Kitchen for many years. Palmer was predeceased in death by his first wife Mary Ruth Rugh, his parents, and sister, Betsy Douglas. He is survived by his wife Cheryl Rugh, sister Ginny (Warren) Wade, brother-in-law Bill Douglas, son and daughter-in-law John and Diane Rugh, daughter and son-in-law Katie and Ken Weaver, 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. A Celebration of Palmer's life will be held on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Mountain View Presbyterian Church in Loveland. Memorial contributions can be made to the Mountain View Presbyterian Church- Deacons Fund or Music Department and Pathways Hospice. Go to www.kibbeyfishburn.com for online condolences.
