Carolyn Denise Thompson as the eighth child born to Atlas and Arnenor Livingston on May 17, 1952 in Franklin County, NC. It is with great sadness that the family announced her passing at her home in Prince George, Virginia on January 2, 2018 at the age of 65 after a long illness.
Carol or Curlyn as her brothers and sisters affectionately called her moved with her family to Paterson, New Jersey in 1954. There she was educated in the Paterson Public School System and later received her Associate Degree in Business Administration from Passaic County Community College.
Carol worked as a Payroll Clerk at Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Paterson, New Jersey until her health started to decline. There at St. Joseph’s Hospital Carolyn made many friends and was the go to person in regards to payroll related questions. Carol met James Thompson in 1988 and married in 1991. They would have celebrated their 27th wedding anniversary on January 10, 2018. With her health declining Carol and her husband James decided to relocate to Prince George, Virginia in 2007 where James and her sisters devoted themselves to taking care of Carol during her long illness.
In her younger years, she loved to sew and spent many nights cutting out patterns to make outfits for herself and her daughter. She loved fashion and shopping with her sisters. They would spend many hours “on the highway” shopping and spending time with each other. She loved books and music and passed that love onto her children. Carolyn was also a great cook and delighted in cooking for her husband, kids and their friends. In her later years, she developed a love for Soap Operas and could not be bothered with phone calls or interruptions during the times her “stories” were on.
She is predeceased by her loving parents, Atlas and Arnenor; sister, Irene Hardy; brother Randolph Livingston and a stepdaughter, Lalon Thompson.
Carol was a devoted mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother. She leaves to mourn her memory: her husband, James Thompson of Prince George Virginia; sons, Vonward Alford (Brenda) and Lenwood Alford both of Paterson NJ; daughter, Tara Kelley (Saboor) of Clifton NJ; stepsons, Lonnie, Richard, James and Eddie all of Paterson NJ; sisters, Almarie Khawaja, Eugenia Blowe (James), Yvonne Baker, Yvette Thompson (Tom); brother, Napoleon Livingston (Malonia); devoted grandchildren, Jaron, Simone, Amber, Autumn and Bria; great granddaughter, Jaslene; a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

I wish I was half as good a son to you as you were a mother to me. You gave us life and we gave you hell. Taking me from boyhood to manhood with patience and guidance. Making all of us feel as though no-one and nothing else matters. Being mother all the time except when you needed to be father. Using your intricate network of friends who told you when I skipped school after you dropped me off. Teaching me how to play football as child which became my first love, then not allowing me to play on the football team in order to discipline a reckless sophomore. A lesson I finally got in my twenties. Loving me when I didn't know how to love myself. Humbling me when I only knew how to love myself. Siding with my wife when I was wrong, which was more often than I would admit. Being a confidante to Brenda helping her to become the best wife any man could ask for. Your loving hands shaping and molding me making me a better person, father, brother and finally a better son. Mom I love you I miss you and my only regret is I thought I had more time. I wish I had more time, I know there is one more lesson you have for me, I finally got out of my own way and I'm waiting to hear from you. Forever your loving son.
