Just thinking about you, Lew! The void you left behind is incredible. When we think about you, we will always say a prayer for you. We love and miss you more than words can say. It's comforting to know that our little Andy has such a great Uncle up there with him...one day we will all be together again. God bless you. And Rachel, may God greatly bless you with healing! With much Love, Max and Janielle

Rachel,
I was so very sad to read about Lewis's death. I remember you talking so happily about him and Oscar. Tell his stories and surround yourself with those funny and loving memories...may they sustain you. I pray that you find comfort in the love of family and friends. I send my love and prayers to you and Oscar and your family. Love, Jan Poole

It just doesn't seem real that such a great person is gone. Lewis was the biggest ray of sunshine to all of us. We will miss you more than words can say, and we hope you know how much you mean to us and that we love you...we always will... Go with God, Lew! He needs you now. With all our love, Max & Janelle

THE BUTTERFLY
The man whispered, "God, speak to me,"
and a meadowlark sang.
But the man did not hear.
So the man yelled, "God, speak to me!"
And the thunder rolled round the sky.
But the man did not listen.
The man looked around and said,
"God let me see you."
And a star shined brightly.
But the man did not notice.
And the man shouted,
"God show me a miracle!"
And a life was born.
But the man did not know.
So the man cried out in despair.
"Touch me, God, and let me know
you are here!"
Whereupon, God reached down
and touched the man,
but the man brushed the butterfly away
and walked on.
Don't miss out on a blessing because it isn't packaged
the way that you expect.

I had the pleasure to meet Lewis as a student and then work with him for several years and I cannot think of one moment when he did not have a smile in his face. He made everyone's day better, all the time. I am sure the head house and the vineyard are not the same today.

Rachel, Your family has had more than your share of losses in the last couple of years. My heart and mind has been there with you guys all day. I suddenly lost my husband 2 1/2 years ago, the pain touches parts of you, you didn't even know you had. I know Woody's spirit is still beside you…you'll feel it. He'll guide and protect you from now on…just talk to him, it helps. I am sending you prayers to you and please call just to chat if you want to. (916) 628-6899

My deepest condolences to the Woody family. I only knew him for a few years while I worked in the vineyards, but even a half hour would inform anyone of his vibrant personality. This was a man who always had a the time to lend a helping hand and cheer you on when you're feel blue. I'll never forget the cheerful whistling, rollicking laughter , and the mischievous twinkle in his eye.

Some of my best years were in high school and Rachel and Woody (as we called him) were the ideal couple. He had an infectious smile and attitude wherever he was. I just knew they would be together always and it is with great sadness to see that he has passed. My sincere condolences to Rachel and the Woody family.

Lewis was one of a kind. Invariably upbeat. Never without a smile. Always with a quip, poking a little fun, always in a good natured way. I hope you will indulge me with a story about Lewis's sense of humor. I remember one time, many years ago, we were harvesting a research plot at Oakville. My wife had decided she wanted to experience grape harvest so I brought her to the field. When I came to the vineyard the crew was already picking. I called out to them, "My wife is here to help." Lewis looked up out from the vines and said, "Well, that doesn't look like the girl you were here with yesterday." The whole group broke up with laughter, including my wife. It is impossible to fully state what a breath of fresh air Lewis was to department. I was honored to know him.

Woody was a wonderful person that just made this earth a better place. I went to school with Woody and Rachel and they seemed meant for each other from the start. God must have a job and needed a special Angel to do it. Woody was such a positive person and was really liked by everyone throughout high school. Even when I went to Lupe's funeral a few years ago...there was Woody holding the door open for everyone. I'm so sorry for your loss Rachel, God Bless you and your family.

I know you're smiling down on all of us and the sound of your laugh now echoes across the heavens, the thought makes me grin through my tears. The timing is unfair—there is much left to do and celebrate. The loss is immeasurable—your absence will be felt always. The memories we have—Babalu, the chuckles, the beaming way you adored your granddaughter, your fanatical love of Elvis, Alabama and Garth Brooks, though not necessarily in that order! Your positive impact will continue on through us all. Love you, Uncle.
