Mary Christian Obituary

September 22, 1943 - January 6, 2019
Mary Elizabeth was born on September 22, 1943 at Santa Rosa Hospital, the daughter of Doctor Thomas E. and Dorris Christian. Mary attended St. Mary's hall where she excelled in all sporting activities. She attended SMU and graduated from Southwestern at Memphis (now Rhodes) and went on to earn her Master's degree from Trinity University. Mary spent many years as an Educational Diagnostician in Special Education at Harlandale ISD, gifted and devoted to her educational career. An avid Spurs fan but, above all else, a lover and savior of all four-legged friends. Mary rescued every stray dog and cat that crossed her path, gave them her heart and her home. There are currently 7 dogs and a colony of feral cats mourning their loss. Mary Elizabeth was predeceased by her parents, two brothers, Tommy and David and her nephew Brent Christian. Mary is survived by her loving and devoted spouse of 40 years, Judy Lusted. Also, sister-in-law, Barbara Christian, niece Cynthia Shea and her family.

I am so sorry to hear of Mary's passing away. I was a classmate & friend of hers at SW. I recall her fondness for animals way back then when she rescued two monkeys from a pet store, however, because of their ability to produce loud noises, she was forced to return them to the store. I have not seen her since about 2000 when we met in Texas. I believe I met you, Judy, then. My condolences to all of you.

I worked with Mary many years in Harlandale ISD. She was the ultimate professional and a loving friend. I feel blessed to have known her. Penny Vaughn

I met Mary when I worked for her father in the late sixties. We became friends and I have such fond memories of riding around in her Corsair on summer evenings, sharing a meal or a game of miniature golf. For some unexplainable reason I have thought of her so many times in the past few months and deeply regret not picking up the phone to reconnect.
My profound condolences to her spouse, family, friends, and loving pets.
