Carol Patrice Niekrasz December 25, 1946 - July 18, 2020 Bonita Carol P. Niekrasz of Bonita passed away peacefully at Summer House in Wesley Palms, Pacific Beach, CA at the age of 73.Carol was born on Christmas Day to Leonard A. and Esther P. Surette (Henshon) in Woonsocket, RI. She enjoyed an idyllic childhood with her siblings Leonard and Margaret, sledding in winter at their home in Medway, MA and spending summers at their beach cottage in Humarock. At Northeastern she met Edward Joseph Niekrasz and life-long friends Steve and Jane Stabile. Together, they became founding members of the Bay State Corvette Club. Carol and Ed married in 1969 in Lynnfield and had their first son David in 1970 in Framingham. Carol graduated from Cardinal Cushing College, earning degrees in English Literature & Mathematics and serving as Class President. Edward's career as a mechanical engineer brought them to California in 1974, and they chose Bonita for their new home. Their second son John was born in 1977. Carol spent the 70's and 80's as a full-time mother, supporting her sons' interests in academics, soccer, and music, with a persistent and boundless love.As her children grew older, Carol enrolled at Southwestern College. She took work as a student worker, and enjoying it very much applied in 1988 for a full-time position in the Business Division. In 1992, she transferred to the Athletics Division, realizing right away that she had found her "second home." There, she became dedicated to helping young athletes, processing student athletic eligibility for 18 teams, and counseling athletes to work hard, set goals, and continue their education. Carol's 22 years at Southwestern ended upon retirement in 2009. In 2011, she was inducted into the Southwestern College Athletics Department Hall of Fame.Carol's primary focus was always her family. She and Edward spent many hours with their sons and grandchildren, who gave her the nickname "Whamo." She also nurtured a beautiful garden, which in 2006 hosted her son John's marriage to Jenny Warren. Carol always loved to dance, and especially enjoyed the Motown artists. After Edward's death in 2011, she spent her time under the excellent care of the staff at Summer House at Wesley Palms. Her family is also very thankful for the care and support of her care manager Rebecca Montano. Carol will be remembered as a patient, joyous, and loving person. She is survived by her sons David and John, daughter-in-law Jenny, grandchildren Quinn and Isla, and brother Leonard and his wife Barbara. Carol is preceded in death by her husband Edward and sister Margaret Moss. Carol's ashes will be interred at Glen Abbey Memorial Park in Bonita, CA with Edward. Due to current circumstances, memorial services will be private.

We loved Carol and think of her often. I love the picture you used of Carol, that's exactly how I remembered her!
I remember your parents working on the yard as their favorite pastime, and their home was part of a beautiful home tour in Bonita. Plus a couple of weddings in the backyard.
May the pain of losing Carol ebb, and be replaced with all the good memories together.
Sending our love, Andrea & Gilles

As an Aging Life Care Manager, I have met and provided care services for many adults and families; but, every once in awhile a person enters my heart and sets up camp. Carol was one of these people! She and I hit it off immediately. Her kind demeanor, her tremendous love for her family, and her joy of music made it easy to connect with Carol. My fondest memories of Carol always involved music. Listening to The Temptations, Michael Jackson, Smokey Robinson (an agreed favorite), plus others-- Carol and I would sing and dance (she was much better at both than I) as we drove to appointments, got her nails/hair done, or just had a visit. We often had so much fun that I almost forgot it was work! As time went on, we continued to listen to music. The day before Carol passed, David and John graciously invited me to visit Carol. Upon entering Carol’s room, I went through my usual routine of selecting music for our visit. As Patti LaBelle started singing Somewhere Over the Rainbow, Carol turned to me smiled and blinked several times. I not only felt Carol’s love and gratitude immediately; but I knew and so did Carol, it was time to say good-bye. She was ready to start her own journey over the rainbow. So my dear sweet Carol, once againThank You for all the joy and grace you gave me. Thank You for letting me be part of your life. I will miss you! See you Somewhere Over the Rainbow. Love, Rebecca

Oh my, Carol was such a close friend while they lived in MA. The Corvette events we put on together were fun and inventive, like the progressive supper rallies.

Carol and I got into sewing. Carol made Ed slacks. That's when I learned that the zipper part (flies) on men's slacks have 11 individual pieces. Now that's high level sewing skills.

Then we moved on to gardening. We'd split packets of seeds. One time my pepper seedlings were wiped out by a mouse in the greenhouse. Carol to the rescue. She gave me some of her seedlings.

After the move to CA, we kept in touch. Carol sent amazing Christmas decoratives. So at Christmas, I get to remember our times together again.

We did visit back and forth East to West coast, not a lot but enough to know we still cared for each other.

We visited Carol 2 years ago, after she had moved to Wesley Palms. She was happy and well cared for. We are grateful that David kept us up to date .

So now we come to the end of a great friendship spanning time and distance.

David, John, Jenny, Quinn and Isla - I don't have to tell you how blessed you were. And so were we. Thanks for the great job you did taking care of your mom. Jane and Steve Stabile

Carol’s beautiful smile and gentle chuckle made the world a better, brighter place. My husband, daughter and I enjoyed our tour of Germany in what our daughter called the “bread truck vans”, while our sons trained for a soccer tournament we attended. Wonderful memories of special friends.

I have many wonderful memories of "Aunt Carol". She showered my family and I with neverending love and support. She always exuded kindness and compassion and would extend a hand to whomever needed it!! I recall her bravery watching me and my 4 siblings (at that time) from her home in Framingham, Mass. She never appeared stressed or exacerbated with the addition of us! Aaron is another great memory Fondly remember my last vacation to California...a SeaWorld adventure with my dear cousins, David, John, Jenny and kids! She opened her beautiful home to me...I'll cherish that and her forever. Thank you for your years of devotion and love to the "Watson Clan" and to everything you accomplished in your very full life!!
Rest in eternal peace Aunt Carol...together again with Uncle Eddie.
You'll be forever missed...I love you.

I was so blessed to know both Carol and Ed! They were both such an inspiration to me. Carol always had a beautiful smile on her face and a very loving and caring personality. She was always so kind to my dad and I making sure we always had our basketball passes! She truly loved her work, athletes and the athletic department at Southwestern College. Rest In Peace Carol.

Dear John, David and family, my deepest sympathy for your loss. My friendship with Carol goes back to Holliston, Ma and attending Marian High School with her. We became very close and the "gang" of Carol, Patty, Kathy, Joanne, Jane, Steve, Paul and Ed stayed close over the years. My husband and I were lucky to visit with Carol on her trip back east a few years ago. There are so many memories it is hard to pick one, but singing and dancing to the Beach Boys comes to mind. Despite Carol and Ed moving to CA I remained close via phone and did visit their beautiful home in Bonita a couple of times. Carol was always full of life and fun to be with. Her marriage to Ed and her two sons were the center of her life. I can't imagine your loss My thoughts and prayers are with you. Love, Eleanor ( Burns) Moreland.

Carol was an Amazing Athletic Sec. and person. As a Coach at SWC, I was fortunate to work with Carol, she always put the athletes and coaches first....Whatever we needed, she made it happen. Great memories!!!
I also enjoyed times when I would hang out in her office and just share stories....about our dogs, her garden, her sons achievements, and life adventures. Carols' office at SWC was the hang out office....all coaches loved to just visit with her....she was such a warm and caring person.
I was lucky enough to be inducted into the SWC Hall of Fame class, 2011, with Carol.
She had retired 2 yrs before and it was such a fun nite seeing her again. It would be the last time I saw her.....but would think about her over the years.
A life well lived, is one where you made a difference....you made a difference Carol!!!
Thank you!!
Rest in Peace

Carol was our neighbor, and our sons Brian and John were friends and soccer teammates. On a team trip to Austria, she and Ed were able to go along while we were not, but we knew our son would be looked after by them. She was gracious and loving and a great asset to the Athletics Department at Southwestern College. We extend our sincere sympathy to David, John, Jenny, Quinn, and Isla.
