Minot James Ferson

Ferson, Minot James 06/18/1941 ~ 03/07/2015 SAN DIEGO -- Minot James Ferson, of San Diego, passed away in his home on March 7, 2015. Minot was born in Hollywood to Virginia and James Ferson. His mother, an actress at the time, gave up Hollywood to raise her family in San Diego. Minot embraced all that San Diego had to offer. He graduated from Mission Bay High School, surfed the local beaches, was a member of the Old Mission Beach Athletic Club (OMBAC), and waterskied Mission Bay. After a tour in the Army Minot went on to earn a degree at San Diego State University. At SDSU he was a member of Kappa Sigma and was voted Best Dressed Man on Campus. Minot was also involved in the early days of drag racing in San Diego from the pre- sanctioned runs at Otay Mesa to many glory days at Carlsbad Raceway. His love of the 50's and 60's Corvettes he owned and raced led to the naming of his favorite German Shepard, Zora, after Zora Duntov of Corvette Lore. In his final years Minot was restoring a 1970 Corvette. Minot touched many in San Diego with never a mean spirited word and always an earnest "How are you?" His occupations over the years included lifeguarding, managing local restaurants, notably Botsford's in La Jolla, Old Town Mexican Café, and The Green Flash in Pacific Beach. Along the way Minot also worked as a Quality Control Manager for a local shipyard company. Minot will always live in our hearts and minds embodying our family's signature phase "143." Minot is survived by his wife Laurel, brothers Dan Ferson, Michael Ferson, and Bill Macpherson, his nephew and godson Alec, his nieces and nephews Monica, Steven, Ian, Shawna, Ryan, Caitlin, Shelby, and their families. Details for a June celebration of Minot's life will be provided at a later date.
