I had Mr. Stegman for a semester of social studies at Los Osos Middle School in 1997 or 1998, and to this day he remains one of the best teachers I've ever had. He was such an engaging teacher and his class was so participatory and fun, it was impossible to not get excited. I still remember many of the lessons he taught. I had always hated history before his class, but I've loved it ever since. I am so grateful that I had him as a teacher. My thoughts are with you, his family.

Jill, John and Anna---So sorry and sad to hear of Don's passing. I had the pleasure of spending a lot of time with Don on the tennis courts and talk about life and family. It was a blessing from God to know him in this life and I pray for God's grace to comfort you in this time of sorrow and grief.

Jill, John and Anna,

I don't need to tell you what an awesome man your father was. I had the pleasure of teaching with him for 15 years. He was bright, funny, compassionate and was one of the most successful teachers I know. I will never forget all of our BBQ's at the Buck-Moyers and the long talks with your dad at the gym. He was truly the most courageous man I known and he loved his family dearly. Your family will be in our prayers. We love you.

We all miss this kind, gentle man who loved life and gave his all on a daily basis. I had the privilege to teach with Don for many years. He was always looking for methods to reach children and to inspire them to learn. I will miss his great laugh and smile that made each day a lot brighter. A true gentleman, he made this world a better place for all of us.
With respect and love
