I am saddened. Tried calling him for on year. He visited me in AZ. I had his work in my Gallery in Los Olivos. We were great friends. I am at a loss for words. My condolences to family. I have his Paris Balerina. If anyone has his work let me know.

I went to Poly from 73-75 and always loved Hugh's dragon paintings that hung in many local businesses. My husband and I married in 1977 and honeymooned in SLO. We made it a point to buy a small dragon painting and that is when we first met Hugh and Jackie. I recall he had us to their house so we could choose the painting we wanted. It was $100 and a big budget items for us as newlyweds. At our 6th anniversary we commissioned him to paint a large painting of two dragons walking hand-in-hand up the path to their castle in the sky. (I'd seen one similar when we first visited -- he was painting it for a wedding gift for someone.) When it was finished, Hugh and Jackie drove it up to us in the Bay Area and delivered it. It hangs over our bed and has for 34+ years. We just were reminiscing about our two painting this week and wondering how Hugh was doing and what his current art form and subject matter was. I had to research it since I always wanted a 3rd painting...one with his dragon flying.
So I am crushed to find out that he passed last year. Our condolences to Jackie and his family. He will always be in our hearts and a part of our marriage memories. We're going on 41 years now....

Hugh lived in Cambria for awhile too. As a kid he was our neighbor and spent time with my brother, sister and I. He and his mother were super nice to us. I've always admired his great artwork. There's also a big mural on the wall in the Hungry Fisherman in Morro Bay that he painted. It's a captain standing by the ocean with a ship in the background.

I had Mrs Kling as an english teacher at San Luis high. She was a high energy person and i looked forward to attending her class. I remember her lessons on the greek roots of the english language; stuff that was interesting and still helpful. Condolences to the family. Thank you. Joe Packard, Atascadero Ca.

Remembering such good times with Hugh and Jackie, over 40 years ago. So kind and generous, there was always room at their table for friends. And thanks, Hugh, for giving us that little dreamer of a dragon. He brought a lot of happiness to so many.
There will be great Hugh Slayden stories fondly remembered today.
